JACKSON'S PAIR OF GOALS PUSH TIGERS PAST FERRUM, 2-1

FERRUM, VA (September 13, 2003)—Freshman forward Marcus Jackson (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) scored two goals to lead Hampden-Sydney past Ferrum, 2-1, in men's collegiate soccer action Saturday. With the victory, Hampden-Sydney improves to 5-1 as Ferrum drops to 3-3.

Jackson's first goal of the game was on a penalty kick in the 27th minute, which he sneaked past the FC keeper to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Jackson then delivered the game-winner in the 49th minute when he scored off the rebound of his own shot, which clanked off the cross bar. On the year, Jackson now ranks second on the Tiger team with nine points on four goals and one assist.

Ferrum scored a late goal of their own on a Ryan Hambright shot in the 72nd minute to cut the deficit to one, but the Tigers held on for the victory.

Hampden-Sydney out-shot Ferrum, 38-6, and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman Nathaniel Dallas (Hendersonville, TN/Hendersonville) picked up the win in the nets for H-SC as he worked the first 61 minutes of action and registered four saves while not allowing a goal.

The Tigers will return to action next Saturday, September 20, as the team hosts Methodist College at 3 pm at Miller Field.
