HAMPDEN-SYDNEY SOCCER TEAM FALLS TO VA WESLEYAN, 2-0

NORFOLK, VA (October 8, 2003)—Hampden-Sydney's soccer team lost to Virginia Wesleyan, 2-0, Wednesday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 5-6 overall and 0-5 in the ODAC as the Marlins improve to 8-2 and 3-0 in the conference.

Virginia Wesleyan's Phil Neiland put the Marlins in the lead in the 44th minute of action on an unassisted strike. Kelvin Murray then sealed the game in the 57th minute with blast off an assist from Steve Leahy.

Hampden-Sydney recorded ten shots, while Virginia Wesleyan finished with 11. Marlin goalkeeper Sean Wheaton recorded his fifth straight shutout on the year with five saves in the net.

Hampden-Sydney returns to action Saturday, October 11, as the team hosts Methodist College in a non-conference matchup at Miller Field.
