HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (October 4, 2003)—Hampden-Sydney's soccer team suffered its third one goal loss of the season Saturday as Ampofo Darko's goal in the 49th minute of action lifted Guilford College to a 2-1 victory over the Tigers in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. The Quakers improve to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the ODAC as the Tigers drop to 5-5 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Tim Imafidon gave the Quakers a quick lead in the 16th minute on an unassisted goal. Hampden-Sydney freshman forward Marcus Jackson (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) tied the score with his seventh goal of the season in the 28th minute on a penalty kick.
Darko then scored the game-winner in the opening minutes of the second half as the Quakers held on for the 2-1 finish.
Both teams tallied ten shots for the contest, while Guilford had a 2-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Hampden-Sydney returns to action Wednesday, October 8, as the team travels to Norfolk, VA, to take on ODAC-foe Virginia Wesleyan at 7 pm.
