HILLMANN PACES TIGERS TO 3-1 VICTORY OVER LYNCHBURG

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (October 25, 2003)—Hampden-Sydney junior Bobby Hillmann (Raleigh, NC/Leesville Road) scored two goals to lead the Tiger soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Lynchburg Saturday at H-SC's Miller Field. The win keeps the Tigers (7-8-1/2-6 ODAC) conference tournament hopes alive, while Lynchburg drops to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

Lynchburg struck first as Brandon Flowers scored with just 13 seconds remaining in the opening period, giving the Hornets a 1-0 advantage at the break.

Hillmann tied the game in the 57th minute with his second goal of the season, off assists from freshmen Marcus Jackson (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) and Robbie O'Cain (Asheville, NC/Asheville). Hillmann then scored the game-winner in the 76th minute, again with an assist off Marcus Jackson.

Tiger senior Pat Whitehead added the team's third goal as he scored in the 77th minute with Marcus Jackson assisting on his third goal of the season.

Overall, Hampden-Sydney out-shot Lynchburg, 13-7, while Tiger keepers Nathaniel Dallas (Hendersonville, TN/Hendersonville) and Pierce Buckingham (Richmond, VA/Christchurch) helped keep the Hornets at bay with three saves in the net.

The Tigers now move on to face Eastern Mennonite Tuesday, October 28, in Harrisonburg, VA, at 3 pm. The Tigers must win the contest and will be in the ODAC Tournament if Lynchburg falls to Guilford. The Hornet-Quaker match up will be played Monday, October 27.
