ASHLAND, VA (October 21, 2003)—Hampden-Sydney's soccer team lost a double-overtime decision to Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent Randolph-Macon, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers fall to 6-8-1 overall and 1-6 in the ODAC with the loss as the Yellow Jackets improve to 8-4-2 and 3-2-2.
In the 108th minute of action, Randolph-Macon's Adam Jones scored his second goal of the season off assists from Dane Wendell and Greg Ridout to hand the golden goal victory to the Yellow Jackets.
The Tigers out-shot Randolph-Macon, 10-8, while the Yellow Jackets held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks. Hampden-Sydney goalkeeper Pierce Buckingham (Richmond, VA/Christchurch) took the hard-luck loss despite working the entire second half and two overtime periods, 63 minutes in all, and making four saves.
Hampden-Sydney will return to action Saturday, October 25, as the Tigers host Lynchburg College in a battle that will decide the eighth-seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. The contest will be played at 1 pm at Miller Field.
