HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Freshman
Nate White (Virginia Beach) scored in the 89th minute to help Hampden-Sydney College secure a 1-1 draw against Sewanee (TN) on Sunday afternoon at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
Sewanee opened the scoring in the 22nd minute to take the lead. Sewanee had control offensively in the first half, taking seven shots to just one for H-SC.
The second half flipped offensively for H-SC, with the Tigers forcing two saves by the goalie, including a save in the 88th minute on a shot from junior
Zakky Johnston (Meherrin) that earned H-SC a corner kick. On that corner, senior
Tyler Petz (Cary, NC) whipped in a ball that found the head of White, who headed it home to tie the game. The final minute and 22 seconds went by without any more shots, ending the game in a 1-1 draw between the Tigers.
Sewanee held the edge on shots at 11-8, but H-SC held the advantage on shots on target at three to two.
Sophomore
Stig Larson (Richmond) played the full 90 minutes in net, making one save and allowing one goal.
The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, September 9, when they play the University of Mary Washington in non-conference action. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Stadium in Richmond.
