Ubaid Wasi (Meherrin) scored two goals while seniors
Jason Trujillo (North Lauderdale, FL) and junior
Colin Hallman (Cornelius, NC) had two assists to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 2-1 win over Randolph College on Saturday evening at WildCat Stadium.
The Tigers jumped out to a lead just before the 24-minute mark, when the ball came out after a corner; Trujillo whipped the ball back in from the left side to the far post, finding Hallman, who hit the cross first-time, and Wasi was able to get a toe on it to poke it home to grab the lead. H-SC doubled its advantage just over nine minutes later, when the trio combined again, as Trujillo hit the cross in, finding the head of Hallman at the back post, who headed it back towards the middle of the box for Wasi to head home his second of the evening. The Tigers were able to keep the WildCats off the board for the rest of the half to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
The second half saw the WildCats claw one back in the 63rd minute, but the Tigers made sure that was the only goal they scored over the final 45 minutes, to secure a 2-1 win.
H-SC took 17 shots in the game compared to seven for the WildCats, with eight of those shots finding the target, compared to five for the WildCats.
Sophomore
Stig Larson (Richmond) got the win in net, making four saves for his fifth win of the season.
The Tigers will be back in action when they host Batten University on Wednesday, September 23, in a game designated as non-conference. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
