BUENA VISTA, Va. -- Seniors
Jason Trujillo (North Lauderdale, FL) and
Mo Wumpini (Chattanooga, TN) combined to score the only goal of the game, securing a 1-0 non-conference win over Southern Virginia University on Wednesday night at Knight Stadium.
The Tigers delivered the only offense in the first half, outshooting the Knights six to zero through the first 45 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net.
Coming out of halftime, H-SC finally broke through in the 52nd minute when Trujillo crossed from the left wing to the back post, where Wumpini struck it first-time with his right foot to beat a diving goalkeeper. The Tigers came close to doubling their advantage a few more times, but the defense was up to the task of keeping the fourth clean sheet of the season to secure the 1-0 win.
H-SC was in command offensively on the evening, taking 13 shots compared to two for the Knights, and three of those were on target versus only one for SVU.
Sophomore
Stig Larson (Richmond) earned his fourth win of the season in net, making one save for his fourth shutout of the season.
The Tigers will remain on the road as they travel to Lynchburg on Saturday, September 19, to take on Randolph College in a game designated as non-conference. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at WildCat Stadium.
