It's the first home game of the season for the Tigers, and Hall of Fame Weekend at the College. H-SC is 0-1 overall following a season-opening 29-20 non-conference road loss at (RV)Wabash (IN) College on Sept. 5 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. MC, receiving votes in the latest D3football.com Top 25, is also 0-1 overall following a 36-21 non-conference home loss to (9)Wartburg (IA) College on Sept. 5 in Monmouth, Illinois. Head Coach Vince Luvara
H-SC is led by the third-year head coach who took over the program on December 7, 2023. The former defensive coordinator at Washington & Jefferson (PA) College from 2016-23, Luvara is the 29th head coach in the 131-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native is no stranger to NCAA Division III, having played four years at Allegheny (PA) College and coached one year at Allegheny and two years at Misericordia (PA) University—each school members of Division III. Luvara is 12-9 at the College.

The Series
H-SC and MC are playing for the first-time ever. The Fighting Scots have amassed over 600 wins since 1888, while winning nine Midwest Conference Championships and making eight NCAA Playoff appearances since 2005. MC advanced to the second round of the NCAA Playoffs a year ago, falling 49-15 to No. 7 Saint John's (MN).

Scouting The Tigers
Junior quarterback Connor Creech (Winston-Salem, NC) has passed for 148 yards (17-29-2) and two touchdowns with two interceptions thrown, adding 35 yards rushing on 12 attempts and one rushing touchdown. He leads the ODAC in total offense (183.0), is second in passing yards, tied for second in passing touchdowns, while fourth in completion percentage (58.6) and passing efficiency (110.5).

Senior running back Terry Hicks (Clayton, NC) has rushed for 156 yards on 22 attempts, adding two yards receiving on one reception. He leads the ODAC in rushing yards and all-purpose yards (158.0), and is fourth in total offense (156.0). Hicks ranks 14th in NCAA Division III rushing yards.

Sophomore wide receiver Max Nitti (Appomattox) has three receptions for 31 yards receiving. He is tied for seventh in the ODAC in receptions. Senior wide receiver Aaron Chaney (Belmont, NC) also has three receptions, totaling 24 yards receiving. He is also tied for seventh in the ODAC in receptions. Senior wide receivers James Bishop (Jacksonville, FL) and Tyler Hendley (Charlotte, NC) are each tied for first in the ODAC in receiving touchdowns (1).

Junior linebacker Frank Brewer (Charlotte, NC) has 12 tackles, including 3.5 for loss, and one sack. He leads the ODAC in tackles for loss, is tied for second in tackles and is tied for third in sacks. Junior safety Mitch Ladamus (Fort Mill, SC) has 11 tackles. He is fourth in the ODAC in tackles. Sophomore linebacker Gavin Gallavan (Richmond) has nine tackles, including 0.5 for loss, 0.5 sacks and one quarterback hurry. He is tied for eighth in the ODAC in tackles. Junior cornerback Parks Cromwell (Charlotte, NC) has eight tackles, including 1.0 for loss, two pass breakups and one quarterback hurry. He is tied for first in the ODAC in pass breakups and is tied for ninth in tackles for loss. Junior defensive lineman Kenen Barlowe (North Chesterfield) is second in the ODAC in sacks (1.5) and tied for fifth in tackles for loss (1.5). Sophomore defensive end Braden Lyons (Virginia Beach) is also tied for fifth in the ODAC in tackles for loss (1.5). Sophomore safety Will Bostwick (Bluffton, SC) is tied for first in the ODAC in forced fumbles (1), and tied for fifth in DIII in forced fumbles. Freshman defensive lineman Matthew Wright (Canton, GA) is tied for first in the ODAC in fumbles recovered (1), and tied for third in DIII in fumbles recovered.

Senior punter Camden Richardson (Midlothian) has averaged 37.0 yards on three punts, including a long of 46 yards. Sophomore placekicker Hank Webb (Salisbury, NC) is 2-2 on PAT kicks (1.000) and 0-1 on field goal attempts (.000). He averaged 58.0 yards on five kickoffs (seven-yard line) with one touchback.

Sophomore running back Will Foley (Virginia Beach) has averaged 21.1 yards on five kick returns, including a long of 25 yards. He is fourth in the ODAC in kick return average.

Scouting The Fighting Scots
Senior quarterback Silas Braun has passed for 178 yards (20-31-2) and two touchdowns with two interceptions thrown, adding 26 yards rushing on 10 attempts. Senior running back Nate Wrublik has rushed for 60 yards on 16 attempts and one touchdown. Junior wide receiver Mason Emin has five receptions for 29 yards. Junior wide receiver Chase Newman has four receptions for 74 yards and two touchdowns.

Senior safety Adrien Raable has 11 tackles and one pass breakup. Senior cornerback Kevins Soivilien has eight tackles and one pass breakup. Sophomore linebacker Gavin Carpenter has seven tackles.

Senior punter Alec Hesson has averaged 22.5 yards on four punts, including a long of 26 yards, with two fair-caught. Freshman placekicker Aiden Sensabaugh is 3-3 on PAT kicks (1.000) and has averaged 56.3 yards on four kickoffs (nine-yard line) with one touchback. Junior wide receiver Gabriel Zeigler-Harris has averaged 22.0 yards on three kick returns, including a long of 38 yards.

2,000 Career Rushing Yards
Terry Hicks surpassed 2,000 career yards rushing with his 156-yard effort at Wabash (9/5). He now totals 2,112 career yards rushing in 27 career games, and is approaching the all-time Top 10 at the College.

100-Yard Rushing Games
Terry Hicks has 10 career games with 100-plus yards rushing, including one this season: game-high 156 yards on 22 attempts at Wabash (9/5). He had five 100-yard rushing games in 2025: a game-high 192 yards on a career-high 31 attempts and a career-high three touchdowns vs. Shenandoah (9/20/25) ... a game-high 137 yards on 19 attempts and one touchdown vs. Bridgewater (11/8/25) ... a game-high 136 yards on 27 attempts and one touchdown vs. Roanoke (10/25/25) ... a game-high 128 yards on 27 attempts and one touchdown at Delaware Valley (9/6/25) ... a game-high 126 yards on 26 attempts and two touchdowns vs. W&L (10/4/25). James Bishop caught his first collegiate receiving touchdown at Wabash (9/5) ... a six-yard reception in the third quarter. Hampden-Sydney Football
H-SC has a 131-year history of football, amassing 590 wins since beginning in 1892. The Tigers have experienced great success over the years, including nine ODAC Championships, 10 Mason-Dixon Conference Championships, seven NCAA Division III Championship Playoff appearances, 88 All-America selections, 13 Academic All-America selections and 229 First Team All-ODAC honorees. H-SC also played in the 1970 and 1971 Knute Rockne Bowls (NCAA College Division East Regional Championship).

From Division III To FBS Arkansas
Ryan Silverfield '03 became the 35th head coach in the University of Arkansas football history in November 2025. Ryan won his coaching debut with the Razorbacks of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), a 31-14 home win past the University of North Alabama on September 5 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Silverfield has been one of the most successful head coaches in the country since taking over the University of Memphis program in December 2019, going 50-25, including a pair of 10-plus win seasons in 2023 and 2024, while earning bowl eligibility in all six years. With eight wins in 2025, Memphis posted 29 victories over the last three seasons to be among the nation's Top 15 programs in wins. His final season with the Tigers also extended the Memphis program's streak to 12-straight bowl appearances – the longest streak among non-Power 4 programs in the nation. Ryan coached four seasons as an undergraduate at H-SC, starting as an offensive assistant in 2000, serving as the defensive line coach during 2001 and 2002, before coaching the tight ends and H-backs in 2003.

Hall of Fame Weekend
H-SC will induct its Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2026 on Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Stephen F. Snyder Hall at the Kirk Athletic Center. The 39th class of honorees will include Baseball All-American Matt Brown '10, Football All-American Will Ferrell '14, two-time Lacrosse All-American Scott Ketcham '99, along with Football All-American Kyle Vance '12. The four inductees will be recognized at halftime of the football game against Monmouth.

Will Ferrell was an American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) First Team All-American in 2012, and a two-time D3football.com All-Region selection, including Second Team in 2013 and Third Team in 2012. A three-time First Team All-ODAC (2011-13) honoree and two-time Touchdown Club of Richmond Offensive Lineman of the Year (2012-13), he was a four-year starter on the offensive line, including three years at left tackle and one year at right tackle, starting all 44 career games. A two-time team captain, the Blythewood, SC native helped the program to a four-year record of 32-12 overall, including 20-6 in the ODAC, winning two ODAC Championships (2011, 2013) and making three NCAA Playoff appearances (2010-11, 2013).  

Kyle Vance was a D3football.com First Team All-America selection in 2011, and a two-time First Team All-ODAC (2010-11) honoree, while the 2011 Touchdown Club of Richmond End/Wide Receiver of the Year. A two-year starter at wide receiver, he played in 38 career games with 213 career receptions for 2,907 career receiving yards and 29 career receiving touchdowns, ranking third in career receiving touchdowns, fifth in career receiving yards and sixth in career receptions. Kyle is tied for the most single-game receiving touchdowns (4, 2011) and season receiving touchdowns (16, 2011), ranks fourth in season receptions (103, 2011) and receiving yards (1,391, 2011), is fifth in single-game receiving yards (228, 2011) and tied for fifth in single-game receptions (14 twice, 2011). The Onley native helped the program to a four-year record of 35-8 overall, including 20-4 in the ODAC, winning two ODAC Championships (2009, 2011) and making three NCAA Playoff appearances (2009-11).
