Cole Palmer (Atlanta, GA) and freshman
Brown Parker (Raleigh, NC) scored three goals, while Hampden-Sydney College had 19 different scorers en route to a 23-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Averett University on Wednesday night at Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Palmer kicked off the scoring for the Tigers in the first quarter, as he put home the pass from junior
Cameron Van Lunen (Southern Shores, NC) just under two minutes in. Parker scored his first of the evening just over a minute later, and sophomore
Nick Winchell (Wilmington, DE) added to the lead 32 seconds later off the pass from freshman
Brenden Kittner (Freeland, MD). Junior
Kavin Wood (Cary, NC) pushed the lead to four, and then Palmer made it five straight goals 22 seconds later. Parker scored his second of the game off a Van Lunen assist, who then scored two minutes later. Kittner scored 40 seconds after the Van Lunen goal off a pass from senior
Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC). Palmer and Parker got their hat tricks within 36 seconds of each other, with Palmer scoring first and Parker putting home the pass from freshman
Nick Wilkins (Glen Allen), with Wilkins then closing out the scoring in the quarter with nine seconds remaining, with the Tigers leading 11-0.
It took over half the quarter, but at the 6:46 mark, H-SC pushed its lead to 12 when sophomore
Bryce Harnsberger (Advance, NC) found freshman
Sam Messinger (Charlottesville) for the goal. Just six seconds later, the Tigers were adding to their lead when sophomore
Michael Green (Leland, NC) won the face-off and took it the distance. Just under two minutes later, sophomore
McGuire Boyd (Richmond) found fellow classmate
Barron Dobson (Shreveport, LA) for the goal. H-SC then scored two goals in 10 seconds, starting with freshman
Max Schneider (Woodford) putting home the pass from Winchell, and the second coming off the stick of junior
Will Thompson (Charlotte, NC) with the assist coming from Messinger. Junior
Jacob Messinger (Charlottesville) got his name into the scoresheet with a goal at the 2:42 mark. The Tigers then closed the quarter with two goals in the final 35 seconds, the first coming on the first of the season from sophomore
Nick D'Alessandro (West Chester, PA) and the second from senior
Quinn Seif (Atlantic Beach, NC) off the Green feed to make it 19-0 going into halftime.
H-SC kept the offense rolling in the third quarter, when junior
Weston Totty (Salem) scored 38 seconds after the whistle blew. The Tigers made it 21 unanswered goals at the 10:03 mark of the quarter, when sophomore
Nick Esposito (Yardley, PA) found fifth-year student
Harry Deller (Baltimore, MD) for the goal. The Cougars broke the run just under two minutes later, before H-SC closed the scoring in the third at the 3:35 mark, when sophomore
Ben Erwin (Dallas, TX) found junior
Alex Wagner (Cary, NC) to make it 22-1 going into the final 15 minutes.
The Tigers opened the scoring in the fourth quarter, with senior
Paul Isenberg (Severna Park, MD) scoring his first career goal five and a half minutes in. Averett then scored twice over the final nine and a half minutes, but H-SC grabbed a commanding 23-3 victory.
Senior
Will Palmer (Atlanta, GA) got the start in net, making two saves over the first quarter of action. Junior
Matthew Dryer (Severna Park, MD) played the second and third quarters, making four saves. Freshman
Hastings Fava (Severna Park, MD) played the final quarter and made four saves.
The Tigers will now await their seeding for the ODAC tournament following the conclusion of the regular season on Saturday, April 25.
