Hampden-Sydney Wins At Randolph 22-3

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Sophomore Barron Dobson (Shreveport, LA) scored four goals, and sophomore Cooper Goss (Suffolk) scored three goals and added two assists to help Hampden-Sydney College take a 22-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Randolph College on Wednesday afternoon at WildCat Stadium.

It was just before halfway in the game before the Tigers got the scoring started in the first, but Dobson scored three straight in a minute and 22 seconds, with assists from senior Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC) and freshman Max Schneider (Woodford). 38 seconds later, H-SC pushed the lead to four, with freshman Scott Thompson (Charlotte, NC) and sophomore Cole Palmer (Atlanta, GA) scoring 11 seconds later. Dobson scored his fourth of the quarter just 15 seconds after Palmer, putting home the Thompson feed. H-SC closed the quarter with three goals in the final two minutes, the first coming from junior Cameron Van Lunen (Southern Shores, NC) off the pass from junior Trey Black (Pinehurst, NC), with the final two coming first from freshman Brenden Kittner (Freeland, MD) and the second from Palmer to make it 9-0 going into the second.

Black started the account for the Tigers in the second quarter when he converted the feed from Goss with 12:08 remaining. Just under two minutes later, Goss went from assisting to scoring when he scored off the feed from junior Will Thompson (Charlotte, NC). The WildCats answered less than a minute later, before Will Thompson also went from scoring to assisting when he put home the pass from sophomore Bryce Harnsberger (Advance, NC). H-SC closed the scoring in the first half when Goss put home his second of the afternoon on the pass from freshman Sam Messinger (Charlottesville) to go into the break, up 13-1.

The Tigers took less than a minute to add to their lead in the third quarter, when junior Alex Wagner (Cary, NC) finished the pass from sophomore Nick Winchell (Wilmington, DE) to push the lead to 13. Messinger added to the lead just under halfway through the quarter when he put home the pass from freshman Tre Carter (Jacksonville, FL). Randolph answered immediately to cut the lead back to 13, before Carter answered back with 1:55 remaining, putting the pass from sophomore McGuire Boyd (Richmond) past the goalie. The WildCats responded with a goal with 15 seconds remaining to make it 16-3 going into the final quarter.

Goss got his hat trick to start the scoring in the fourth quarter, finishing the Winchell feed just under a minute and a half in. Goss then assisted on the following goal, 36 seconds later, when he found Scott Thompson for the finish. The Tigers then scored three goals in less than a minute, starting with sophomore Charlie Olivier (Atlanta, GA) scoring off the feed from fifth-year student Harry Deller (Baltimore, MD) at the 12:11 mark, with sophomore Kaidan Garst (Salem) scoring the second off the pass from junior Weston Totty (Salem), and Totty scoring the final goal at the 11:42 mark. H-SC had one more goal in it, as Schneider scored off a Wagner pass to make it 22-3.

Defensively, the Tigers were led by Boyd, who, in addition to his one assist, caused four turnovers and grabbed five ground balls. Palmer caused two turnovers on the afternoon and grabbed four ground balls, and junior Will Robinson (Kitty Hawk, NC) caused two turnovers.
