Connor Powell (Midlothian) had three hits, including one home run, and three RBIs, but Hampden-Sydney College dropped a 12-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball decision at home to (RV)Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday evening on Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium. Jacob Williams (Chesapeake) started on the mound and took the pitching setback for the host Tigers against the visiting Yellow Jackets in a game that had been suspended on April 1 in the first inning due to weather. H-SC dropped to 15-17 overall, including 8-8 in the ODAC, while RMC improved to 17-11 overall, 8-6 in the ODAC.
H-SC scored seven runs on 12 hits with three errors … scoring one run each in the third and sixth innings, two runs in the seventh and three runs in the ninth. RMC scored 12 runs on 13 hits with no errors … scoring two runs in the first inning, three runs in the second, two runs in the seventh, one run in the eighth and four runs in the ninth.
In the third, sophomore second baseman
Gavin Smith (Mechanicsville) (1-4) led off with an opposite field double down the left field line and scored on a one-out, RBI triple to right center field by Powell (3-5, 3 RBIs) for an early 5-1 deficit.
In the sixth, Wilson (3-4, 4 RBIs) led off with a solo home run to left center field for a 5-2 deficit.
In the seventh, senior team captain
Greer Farr (Southern Shores, NC) (1-1) pinch-hit to begin the at-bat and promptly singled to center field, scoring when Powell followed with a two-run home run to left field and the Tigers trailed 7-4. It was Powell's fourth homer of the season, tying for the team lead.
In the ninth, senior right fielder and team captain
Chase Sanford (Mechanicsville) reached base on a fielder's choice and junior catcher
Noah Leonard (Troutville) followed with a two-out walk, before Wilson added his second homer of the day, a three-run blast to left field, to provide for the final 12-7 margin. It was Wilson's fourth home run of the season, tying for the team lead.
Williams (0-2) started on the mound for the Garnet & Grey and pitched the first 2.0 innings for the loss, allowing five hits and five runs, three earned, with one strikeout and two walks. Sophomore right-hander
Reed Little (Spotsylvania) followed with 4.2 innings of middle relief, scattering three hits and two runs, both earned, with two strikeouts and two walks. Freshman right-hander
Hayden Bynum (Richmond) pitched 2.0 innings, allowing five hits and five runs, four earned, with one strikeout and two walks. Senior right-hander
Cooper York (Gastonia, NC) recorded the final out, yielding no hits and no runs, with no strikeouts and no walks.
