Noah Lewis (Crewe) started on the mound and took the pitching setback for the visiting Tigers against the host Yellow Jackets. H-SC dropped to 15-18 overall, including 8-9 in the ODAC, while RMC improved to 18-11 overall, 9-6 in the ODAC.
H-SC scored three runs on five hits with five errors … scoring one run in the first inning and two runs in the third. RMC scored 10 runs on 12 hits with two errors … scoring six runs in the first inning, three runs in the third and one run in the seventh.
In the first, senior right fielder and team captain
Chase Sanford (Mechanicsville) drew a walk to begin the game and advanced to third on a double down the left field line by Powell (2-5). Sanford scored with one out on a sacrifice fly RBI to center field by Shelhorse (2 RBIs) for an early 1-0 advantage.
In the third, senior center fielder and team captain
Jack Wilson (Petersburg) drew a one-out walk after Powell had singled to left field before being caught stealing. Wilson, however, was successful on his steal attempt and moved on to third via a throwing error by the catcher, crossing the plate when Shelhorse reached on throwing error by the third baseman. Shelhorse later scored on an RBI single to center field by sophomore left fielder
Sam Vick (Capron) (1-4, RBI) for a 6-3 deficit.
Lewis (3-3) started on the mound for the Garnet & Grey and pitched the first two-thirds of an inning, facing eight batters, for the loss, allowing three hits and six runs, two earned, with no strikeouts and one walk. Sophomore right-hander
Brady Wilson (Virginia Beach) followed with 5.1 innings of middle relief, scattering seven hits and three runs, all earned, with two strikeouts and no walks. Senior right-hander
Jacob Williams (Chesapeake) recorded two outs, yielding one hit and one run, earned, with one strikeout and one walk. Senior right-hander and team captain
Sterling Austin Petersburg) tossed the final 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout and no walks.
H-SC will play a non-conference doubleheader against Spaulding (KY) University on Saturday, April 18, beginning at 12 p.m. at Marshall University's Jack Cook Field in Huntington, West Virginia.
