HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College scored 13 unanswered goals to help it take a 16-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Bridgewater College on Wednesday evening at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.

It took less than two minutes for the Tigers to strike first in the opening quarter, as sophomore
Cole Palmer (Atlanta, GA) finished off the feed from junior
Cameron Van Lunen (Southern Shores, NC). H-SC over the next 12 minutes got three unanswered goals, all from freshman
Max Schneider (Woodford), starting at the 12:30 mark off a pass from senior
Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC), then getting the second on a solo effort before his hat trick goal found the back of the net off the pass from senior
Tyler Steele (Pinehurst, NC). The Tigers added one more with 13 seconds left, as sophomore
Barron Dobson (Shreveport, LA) found sophomore
Broder Conley (Duluth, GA) for the goal, making it 5-0 going into the second quarter.

Palmer kept H-SC rolling into the second quarter, as just over two minutes in, he finished off the pass from sophomore
Riley Mullins (Glen Allen) to keep the scoring run going. Just over four minutes later, the Tigers added to their lead with freshman
Brenden Kittner (Freeland, MD) finding the back of the net. Hanes found the back of the net at the 6:20 mark when he finished off the feed from Dobson, who then went from assisting to scoring just over two minutes later when he found the back of the net off the pass from Mullins. Van Lunen got his first of the evening at the 2:02 mark, rifling home a shot off the Hanes feed. Just under a minute later, Palmer secured his hat trick when he cashed in the pass from sophomore
Nick Winchell (Wilmington, DE) to make it 11-0 going into halftime.

The Tigers scored twice within a minute of each other to start the third quarter, starting with Palmer scoring his fourth of the evening, and then junior
Jacob Messinger (Charlottesville) scored 40 seconds later. At the 2:56 mark, the Tigers finally gave up the first goal for the Eagles, but responded 18 seconds later when Van Lunen scored his second goal of the game down a man. H-SC then got a second goal down a man when Palmer scored his fifth of the night off the pass from freshman
Henry Messinger (Charlottesville) to close the scoring in the third quarter, and go to the final 15 minutes up 15-1.

The final 15 minutes only saw one goal, and it came from the Tigers when junior
Kevin Myers (Charlottesville) found the back of the net to bring it to 16-1.

Palmer had a game-high five goals, with Schneider scoring his first career hat trick. Van Lunen scored twice while adding an assist. Hanes and Dobson scored a goal and added two assists, while
Jacob Messinger, Myers, Conley, and Kittner scored once. Mullins had two assists, and Steele, Winchell, and
Henry Messinger had one assist in the game.

On the defensive end, Van Lunen and Palmer led the way with four caused turnovers each. Freshman
Will Foley (Virginia Beach) caused three turnovers, and freshmen
Tristian Smith (Chesterfield) and
Nick Wilkins (Glen Allen) caused two turnovers. Steele grabbed a game-high 12 ground balls while also causing two turnovers.

Matthew Dryer (Severna Park, MD) played 7:53 minutes making one save, and freshman
Hastings Fava (Severna Park, MD) played the final 1:45.

The Tigers will be back in action for the lacrosse homecoming weekend on Saturday, March 21, when they play host to Roanoke College in ODAC action. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
