BOX SCORE

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Freshman left fielder Gib Wirt (Efland, NC) drew a pair of walks, but Hampden-Sydney College dropped an 11-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball decision on the road at nationally-ranked No. 3 the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday afternoon at James C. Fox Field in Lynchburg. Freshman right-hander Hayden Bynum (Richmond) started on the mound and took the pitching setback for the visiting Tigers who are now 10-8 overall, including 4-1 in the ODAC. The host Hornets received a no-hit pitching performance from Logan Tapman, including a career-high 13 strikeouts, and improved to 13-3-1 overall, 4-0-1 in the ODAC.

H-SC scored no runs on no hits with no errors. Lynchburg scored 11 runs on 13 hits with two errors … scoring two runs in the first inning, five runs in the second and one run each in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth.

In the second, sophomore designated hitter Seth Truesdale (Midlothian) reached base on a throwing error by the third baseman and Wirt followed with his first walk of the day, but three strikeouts ended the early scoring opportunity.

In the fourth, junior third baseman and team captain Jase Howell (Portsmouth) reached base on a fielding error by the shortstop, and Wirt walked with one out, but both runners were again left on base.

Bynum started on the mound for the Garnet & Grey and pitched the first 2.0-plus innings for the loss, allowing eight hits and eight runs, all earned, with one strikeout and three walks. Senior right-hander Cooper York (Gastonia, NC) tossed the final 4.0 innings of relief, yielding five hits and three runs, all earned, with no strikeouts and two walks.

H-SC returns home to welcome ODAC member Washington and Lee University for a conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 21, beginning at 12 p.m. on Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium.
