Broder Conley (Duluth, GA) scored four goals with an assist, and senior
Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC) scored three goals to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 20-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
H-SC wasted no time taking the lead, as off the opening face-off, freshman
Alex DeBender (Raleigh, NC) took it the distance for the goal. The Tigers kept it rolling as on the ensuing face-off, freshman
Will Foley (Virginia Beach) picked up the loose ball and drove towards the cage before finding Conley for the goal. The Hornets found a goal to cut the lead to one before Palmer found Hanes for the goal just a minute and a half later. Hanes doubled his tally just over three minutes later, and Palmer got his first of the afternoon on the second assist from Foley. Junior
Kavin Wood (Cary, NC) added a goal just under a minute later, and 16 seconds after that, Palmer scored his second of the afternoon off an assist from junior
Cameron Van Lunen (Southern Shores, NC) to make it 7-1 going into the second quarter.
H-SC kept it rolling in the second quarter, as Foley scored in under a minute for his first career goal. Palmer got his hat trick less than two minutes later, finishing the Conley feed to make it seven unanswered. Shenandoah then answered on the man advantage, before Palmer scored his fourth, and senior
Harry Deller (Baltimore, MD) ripped one past the goalie to make it 11-2 going into halftime.
The Hornets cut into the nine-goal lead to start the third quarter, finding the back of the net in less than a minute. The Tigers then went on to score eight unanswered, starting at the 10:58 mark when Conley finished off the feed from Palmer. A pair of first-career goals were next to come for H-SC in less than a minute, first from freshman
Ryan Doherty (Greer, SC) and the next from fellow classmate
Brenden Kittner (Freeland, MD). Hanes scored his hat trick just over four minutes later, then junior
Alex Wagner (Cary, NC) made it 16-3 less than a minute later. H-SC then scored three goals in less than a minute, starting with junior
Jacob Messinger (Charlottesville) scoring off an assist from sophomore
Barron Dobson (Shreveport, LA), then Conley got his hat trick off an assist from junior
Trey Black (Pinehurst, NC), and junior
Will Thompson (Charlotte, NC) capped off the run with his goal off the dish from sophomore
Cooper Goss (Suffolk). The Hornets closed the quarter with two unanswered, but the Tigers went into the final 15 minutes up 19-5.
Shenandoah opened the fourth with a goal within two minutes, and it took just over 10 minutes for the Tigers to respond as freshman
Sam Messinger (Charlottesville) scored his first career goal off the pass from junior
Weston Totty (Salem). The Hornets scored once more with 44 seconds remaining, but H-SC secured a 20-7 victory.
Palmer led the way with four goals and two assists, with Conley scoring three with an assist and Hanes scoring three. Foley scored one with two assists, while Deller, Thompson,
Jacob Messinger, Wagner, Wood, DeBender, Doherty, Kittner, and
Sam Messinger scored a goal. Black, Totty, Van Lunen, Goss, and Dobson each tallied an assist.
On the defensive side, Van Lunen had a game-high five caused turnovers, and sophomore
Riley Mullins (Glen Allen) caused three. Black, Palmer, senior
Tyler Steele (Pinehurst, NC), and freshman
Nick Wilkins (Glen Allen) each had two caused turnovers.

The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 18, when they take on Bridgewater College in ODAC action. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
