BOX SCORE
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Sophomore guard
Peter Moye (Charlotte, NC) scored a game-high 12 points, all in the first half, and senior guard
Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) and senior guard/forward
Kolby Wright (Cookeville, TN) each scored 11 points, to lead Hampden-Sydney College to an 80-35 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball home win past Randolph College on Wednesday night on Tony Shaver Court in Diaz Arena at Kirby Field House. The host Tigers scored the first 15 points of the game and led 37-8 at halftime, and by as many as 47 points in the second half toward the triumph. Freshman guard/forward
Mason Patrick (Midlothian-Trinity Episcopal School) added career-highs of nine points and nine rebounds, also a game-high, in 15 minutes off the bench for the Garnet & Grey. H-SC improved to 15-9 overall, 9-6 in the ODAC, while Randolph dropped to 5-19 overall, 1-14 in the ODAC, and the WildCats were led by Viktor Parson with 11 points.
"Everyone stepped up tonight and we got it done," said seventh-year head coach
Caleb Kimbrough. "Thank you to all the fans that came out to support. This team has a lot of life left."
H-SC jumped out to the early 15-0 advantage at 16:21 following a steal and layup by freshman guard
Tyree White (Indian Trail, NC), who scored seven quick points, including a three-point field goal with Wright and Moye each adding early three-pointers, as well. Randolph finally got on the scoreboard with a three-pointer of its own at 14:29, but the Tigers extended their lead to 27-5 at 5:43 after a jumper by Moye, who also connected on another three-pointer, as did Radcliffe during the 12-2 run. The Garnet & Grey finished strong and led 37-8 at halftime following a late layup by freshman forward
Jaelen Solomon (Goldsboro, NC), assisted by senior guard
Davis Cauble (Richmond)—limiting the WildCats to just 2-23 shooting from the field during the opening 20 minutes.
H-SC began the second half much the same … scoring the first eight points to lead 45-8 with 17:47 remaining after back-to-back three-pointers by Wright and sophomore guard
Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC). The Tigers continued their momentum and led 59-20 at 11:29 following two free throws by Radcliffe … 62-23 at 10:43 after another three-pointer by Wright … and 69-28 at 6:23 after two free throws by Solomon. Coach Kimbrough was able to all 14 team members dressed and available to play, and
Mason Patrick took full advantage with six points over the final 4:17, along with five points from sophomore guard
Ben Mulry (Greensboro, NC), including a late three-pointer toward the final margin of victory.
Moye led H-SC with his game-high 12 points, all in the first half. Radcliffe and Wright each added their respective 11 points for the Tigers, including 3-6 three-pointers and six rebounds by Radcliffe, and 3-5 three-pointers and four rebounds by Wright in his first collegiate start.
Mason Patrick finished with his career-highs of nine points and nine rebounds, the latter also a game-high, in 15 minutes off the bench. Solomon and junior center
Alex Cannon (Loganville, GA) each contributed eight points with Solomon adding four rebounds and two blocks, all career-highs, and Cannon adding seven rebounds and one block. H-SC shot a season-high 41% (29-70) from the field, including 36% (11-31) on three-pointers, and 85% (11-13) at the free throw line. The Tigers enjoyed a 34-6 advantage in points scored in the paint, and a 35-16 advantage in bench points. It's the second time this season that H-SC has limited an opponent to less than 40 points, while also the fewest points allowed in a game during Coach Kimbrough's tenure that began with the 2019-20 season—the eight points in a half the lowest, as well.
Parson led Randolph with his 11 points, adding five rebounds. The WildCats shot 21% (11-52) from the field, including 24% (6-25) on three-pointers, and 64% (7-11) at the line.
