LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Sophomore
Ubaid Wasi (Meherrin) scored a goal, but Hampden-Sydney College fell 2-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action at the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday night at Shellenberger Field.
Neither side could find a goal in the first 45 minutes, but the second half saw the offenses start to find the back of the net. The Hornets struck first with a goal within the first two minutes of the second half and doubled their advantage in the 73rd minute. The Tigers clawed one back with less than five minutes to go, as sophomore
Stig Larson (Richmond) took the free kick on the defensive half of midfield, and the ball got over a group of Tigers and Hornets in the box, where Wasi was able to head it home after a bounce. H-SC tried to find a second goal in the final 4:33, but was unable to find tying goal and fell 2-1.
The Tigers were outshot on the evening (13-6), with the Hornets also having the shots on target advantage (4-1).
Larson made two saves on the evening while recording his first career assist.
The Tigers will return home on Saturday, October 10, when they welcome Roanoke College for an ODAC clash. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
