ODAC Football Report: Week 5

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College senior running back Terry Hicks (Clayton, NC) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Offensive Player of the Week, and junior safety Mitch Ladamus (Fort Mill, SC) has been named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week, for conference games played October 3. Hicks was selected for his game-high 227 yards rushing and two touchdowns during a 30-14 road win at Shenandoah University in Winchester, his second conference honor this season, while Ladamus was chosen for being responsible for two turnovers forced by the Tigers against the Hornets.

Terry Hicks rushed for his game-high 227 yards on a career-high-tying 36 attempts and a season-high two touchdowns, adding four receptions for eight yards receiving. Hicks has now rushed for 543 yards in the last two games for the Tigers after his school-record 316 yards at the University of New England (ME) on September 19—he totals 754 yards rushing in four games this season to lead the ODAC and NCAA Division III—and also totals 2,710 career yards rushing to rank fifth all-time at the College, and 28 career touchdowns to rank ninth all-time. Additionally, he leads the ODAC in rushing yards per game (188.5), all-purpose yards (784) and all-purpose yards per game (196.0), while fifth in total offense (754) and total offense per game (188.5). Terry also leads Division III in rushing yards per game, while fifth nationally in all-purpose yards and all-purpose yards per game, and 23rd in rushing yards per carry (6.79).

Mitch Ladamus contributed seven tackles, four solo, an interception and a forced fumble—responsible for both turnovers forced by the Tigers' defense. The Garnet & Grey yielded a long kickoff return after taking a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter that was further complicated by a pair of penalties on the return that had the Hornets at the 13-yard line; however, Ladamus forced a fumble on the first play from scrimmage that senior cornerback Cam Jackson recovered and the damage was avoided. SU managed to get to the H-SC 30-yard line as time was running out, but the final play of the game resulted in an interception in the end zone by Ladamus. He has 40 tackles, 19 solo, 1.0 for loss, one interception and one forced fumble, and is tied for second in the ODAC in forced fumbles, tied for fourth in tackles, tied for fifth in tackles per game (10.0) and interceptions, and is seventh in solo tackles. Mitch is tied for 21st in Division III tackles.

H-SC will play its fourth road game in six weeks at Roanoke College on Saturday, October 10, at 4 p.m. at Salem Stadium in Salem.
