HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Senior
Tyler Petz (Cary, NC) had a goal and an assist, but Hampden-Sydney College drew 2-2 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) clash against Shenandoah University on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
The Tigers jumped out to the lead in the ninth minute, when senior
Mo Wumpini (Chattanooga, TN) ran onto the pass from Petz, took a dribble past the goalie and a defender before slotting it into the open net. The Hornets answered just over five minutes later, scoring off a throw in to level the score and make it 1-1 going into halftime.
It was the Hornets who then struck first in the second to grab the lead off a free kick. H-SC then was the one responding, as eight minutes later, freshman
Max Hanger (Richmond) passed the ball into Petz, who passed it back to Hanger, before giving it back to Petz once more, who curled a ball from the left corner of the box over a frozen goalie and into the right-side netting to make it 2-2, which is where the game finished.
Hampden-Sydney held the edge in both shots (15-4) and shots on target (5-3) on the afternoon.
Sophomore
Stig Larson (Richmond) made one save on the day to earn the draw.
The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, October 7, when they travel to Lynchburg to take on the University of Lynchburg. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Shellenberger Field
