SALEM, Va. -- Sophomore guard
Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) had a double-double with 14 points and a career-high and game-high 11 rebounds, but (RV)Hampden-Sydney College dropped a 62-47 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball decision on the road at (RV)Roanoke College on Wednesday night in Salem. The visiting Tigers trailed 28-19 at halftime, and were within 49-43 with 6:40 remaining, before the host Maroons closed the contest on a 13-4 run for the victory. H-SC dropped to 9-5 overall, 3-2 in the ODAC, while RC improved to 10-4 overall, also 3-2 in the ODAC. The Maroons were led by Jackson Bell with a double-double, as well, including a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Caleb Franze added 11 points.
"We really need to do some soul searching after tonight," said seventh-year head coach
Caleb Kimbrough. "We are giving effort, but our focus on the fundamental controllable details is very inconsistent. Until we get everyone committed to those things, we will simply be hopeful that things go our way versus confident in our attack each and every game. We will get there, but we are not there right now."

Santana Lynch (Dallas, TX). RC, also receiving votes this week, responded with 10 unanswered points to lead 15-8 at 12:56, getting a pair of three-point field goals, including one by Franze. Stickney, however, was able to stop the outburst with a three-pointer of his own at 9:37 for a 15-11 deficit, but the Maroons scored the game's next 11 points to lead 26-11 with 4:22 remaining in the half as Franze added another three-pointer. The Tigers closed the opening 20 minutes with a late 6-0 run, including an offensive rebound basket by Stickney at the buzzer, to close within 28-19 at halftime.
H-SC continued its momentum to begin the second half, extending its half-spanning run to 13-3, to close within 31-26 at 16:27 after a basket inside by senior forward
Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC). The two teams played evenly for several minutes with the Tigers trailing 43-36 with 9:08 remaining after two free throws by Lynch, and it was a two-possession game at 49-43 with 6:40 left to play following a drive to the basket by Stickney that followed a three-pointer from Radcliffe. RC, however, scored nine unanswered points while closing the contest on its 13-4 run with six points by Bell, including a three-pointer and an old-fashioned three-point play, before Franze finished the contest with two late free throws.
Stickney led H-SC with his double-double of 14 points and a career-high and game-high 11 rebounds, adding one assist. Fernald and

Peter Moye (Charlotte, NC) each added seven points for the Tigers … with Fernald adding two rebounds, one assist and equaling his career-high with a game-high two blocks, as well, and Moye added three rebounds. Lynch contributed his six points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Cannon also had eight rebounds, along with two points, one steal and one block. H-SC shot 32% (18-56) from the field, including 13% (3-23) on three-pointers, and 80% (8-10) at the free throw line.
Bell led RC with his double-double of a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds, adding a game-high four assists and two steals. Franze finished with 11 points for the Maroons, including 3-6 three-pointers. RC shot 40% (23-58) from the field, including 38% (8-21) on three-pointers, and 62% (8-13) at the line.
H-SC returns home to welcome the University of Lynchburg in ODAC action on Saturday afternoon, January 17, at 2 p.m. on the new Tony Shaver Court in Diaz Arena at the renovated Kirby Field House.
