Hampden-Sydney Takes An 11-5 Road Win At Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Sophomore Kavin Wood (Cary, NC) scored three goals to help lead Hampden-Sydney College to an 11-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Bridgewater College Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles got the scoring started in the first quarter, finding the back of the net at the 11:58 mark. H-SC responded one minute and 40 second later as Wood beat the keeper. Less than a minute later the Tigers grabbed the lead as senior Campion White (Apex, NC) found freshman Broder Conley (Duluth, GA) for the goal. It took a further three minutes before Wood got his second on the board off a feed from freshman Cole Palmer (Atlanta, GA) to double the advantage. The lead was 4-1 11 seconds later when Conley scored off the pass from freshman Lee Acra (Norfolk). The final 6:39 went without a goal as H-SC took a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.

The Eagles struck first again to get the second quarter started at the 10:05 mark. Wood responded with his hat trick goal off an assist from Cole Palmer just over a minute later to make it 5-2 H-SC. Bridgewater responded with two unanswered goals to close the quarter and make it 5-4 going into halftime.

The Tigers wasted no time getting the scoring started after the break as junior Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC) scored to double the lead. After the Eagles scored to answer Hanes scored his second unassisted goal of the afternoon. Senior Conor Kilfeather (Wyndmoor, PA) added a goal to his defensive tally just over four minutes later. Sophomore Alex Wagner (Cary, NC) pushed the lead to four with a goal off an assist from junior Davis Mack (Henrico) and ended the scoring in the third with H-SC leading 9-5.

Sophomore Kevin Myers (Charlottesville) scored to start the scoring in the fourth quarter on the man advantage. With 16 seconds remaining, freshman Bryce Harnsberger (Advance, NC) scored his first career goal to push the game to its final score 11-5.

Wood was the leading scorer in the game with three goals while Hanes and Conley added two. Kilfeather, Myers, and Wagner each scored a goal. Cole Palmer had two assists while White, Mack, and Acra each had one assist.

Kilfeather and sophomore Cameron Van Lunen (Southern Shores, NC) caused three turnovers in the game.

Junior Will Palmer (Atlanta, GA) got the win in net, playing the first 30 minutes making one save. Senior Conner McMullen (Puyallup, WA) played the final 30 minutes making seven saves.

The Tigers will be back in action when they play host to Randolph College in ODAC action on Wednesday, April 9. The game is scheduled to begin a 4:30 p.m. at Lewis C. Everett Stadium.
