Hampden-Sydney Takes 13-5 Win Past Visiting Guilford (NC)

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Freshman Cole Palmer (Atlanta, GA) scored five goals, fellow classmate Broder Conley (Duluth, GA) scored three goals and added an assist, and sophomore Kavin Wood (Cary, NC) tallied three assists to help Hampden-Sydney College topple Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Guilford (NC) College 13-5 Wednesday evening.

It took six minutes and 31 seconds to get the scoring started in the game as the Quakers struck first to take the lead. H-SC responded 38 seconds later as Palmer finished off the feed from junior Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC). Guilford answered back 59 seconds later to take the lead before junior Davis Mack (Henrico) finished the Hanes feed to tie the game again at the 2:17 mark. The Tigers wasted no time taking the lead after Mack's goal, as Conley buried the pass from Wood 26 seconds later. H-SC grabbed one more before the first quarter came to an end, as 46 seconds later, Palmer got his second of the evening off a dish from senior Conor Kilfeather (Wyndmoor, PA) to make it 4-2.

The Quakers ended the three-goal run by H-SC to start the second quarter, finding the back of the net just before the 12-minute mark. Less than a minute later, Palmer completed his hat trick off a Wood feed. Guilford answered again with a goal 35 seconds later before sophomore Alex Wagner (Cary, NC) found the back of the net a minute and 33 seconds later. It took another three minutes and 23 seconds before the Tigers increased the lead to three as Palmer put home the pass from sophomore Kevin Myers (Charlottesville). A minute and 20 seconds later, the lead was four, as Hanes got in the scoring column off a pass from senior Campion White (Apex, NC). White then went from passing to scoring at the 1:41 mark when he beat the keeper off Mack's dish. The Tigers had one more in them before the break, as with 47 seconds remaining, Palmer cashed in a Wood assist for the second time to make it 10-4 at halftime.

H-SC kept the offense rolling to start the third quarter, as just over three minutes in Conley finished the pass from Kilfeather. Conley made it two straight at the 6:54 mark when he put home the pass from White. The scoring closed in the quarter with 4:45 remaining as junior Tyler Steele (Pinehurst, NC) scored his first career goal off a Conley feed to make it 13-4 in favor of the Tigers going into the fourth quarter.

The final 15 minutes saw one goal put on the board at the 11:41 mark with Guilford finding the back of the net to bring the final score to 13-5.
