Hampden-Sydney Runs Past Visiting Randolph-Macon 18-7

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Freshman Broder Conley (Duluth, GA) scored five goals, sophomore Kavin Wood (Cary, NC) scored three goals while adding three assists, and freshman Cole Palmer (Atlanta, GA) scored three goals and added two assists as Hampden-Sydney College cruised past Randolph-Macon College 18-7 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets got the game rolling at the 13:49 mark and doubled up their lead 10 seconds later. It took a further six minutes and two seconds before H-SC pegged one back as Palmer finished off the feed from Wood. Just 20 seconds later, the game was all even as Palmer struck again, this time off the pass from senior Gaines Weis (Richmond). Palmer then gave the Tigers the lead a minute and three seconds later off a dish from junior Davis Mack (Henrico). Conley got his first goal of the afternoon just 18 seconds later, finishing off a pass from sophomore Cameron Van Lunen (Southern Shores, NC). Conley made it two straight for himself at the 5:56 mark as he put home the feed from Palmer to push the lead to three. The Tigers had one more goal in them before the whistle, as Conley got the feed from senior Campion White (Apex, NC) and just beat the horn and the goalie with the shot to give H-SC a 6-2 lead after 15 minutes.

H-SC opened the second quarter with a bang, as off the opening face-off junior Evan Yntema (Summerfield, NC) took it the distance and scored five seconds in. Randolph-Macon was able to stop the 7-0 run by H-SC just over four minutes later and added a second goal at the 3:17 mark to cut the lead to three. The Tigers pushed the lead back to four a minute and 33 seconds later, as senior Conor Kilfeather (Wyndmoor, PA) bounced home a shot. The Yellow Jackets got one more 59 seconds later, but H-SC took an 8-5 lead into halftime.

It took almost six minutes for the game to get a goal in the third quarter, but at the 9:13 mark Conley struck for the fourth time to push the lead to four. 36 seconds later the Tigers found the back of the net with junior Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC) and again 30 seconds after that with Wood finishing off a Palmer feed. Two minutes and one second later White got in the goal column to make it four straight for the Tigers. Randolph-Macon stopped the run nine seconds later but White got his second off a Wood feed on the man-advantage to push the led to seven. Conley got his fifth at the 2:08 mark off a second straight Wood pass before Wood took it himself 43 seconds later. H-SC struck once more in the quarter at the 24 second mark, as Hanes found Weis for the goal to push the game to 16-6 going into the final 15 minutes.

It took just over eight minutes for the Tigers to push the lead to 11, as Mack finished off the pass Weis at the 6:50 mark. Randolph-Macon responded with a goal 15 seconds later, before Wood closed out the scoring a minute and 20 seconds later to make it an 18-7 win for H-SC.

Conley led all scorers with five goals, while Wood had three goals and three assists, and Palmer had three goals and two assists. White was the only other Tiger with multiple goals in the game, scoring two and adding an assist. Weis scored a goal and had two assists, while Hanes and Mack each had a goal and an assist.
