BOX SCORE

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Junior center fielder and team captain Jack Wilson (Petersburg) hit a grand slam home run in the fourth inning, and senior first baseman and team captain Grayson Harris (Moseley) had two hits, to lead Hampden-Sydney College to an 8-3 non-conference baseball home win past Mary Baldwin University on Thursday on Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium. Freshman right-hander Brady Wilson (Virginia Beach) pitched three innings of middle relief to earn his first collegiate pitching victory for the host Tigers (14-16), while sophomore left-hander Adam Emhoff (Chesapeake) recorded the final out with the bases loaded in the ninth to gain his first collegiate save against the visiting Fighting Squirrels (5-24).

In the fourth, sophomore third baseman Jase Howell (Portsmouth) (1-3) singled to left center field to begin the at-bat, advanced to second on a walk to junior designated hitter Greer Farr (Southern Shores, NC) (1-3, RBI) and the bases were loaded when freshman second baseman Sam Vick (Capron) drew a two-out walk. Jack Wilson (1-3, 4 RBIs) promptly followed with a no-doubt grand slam home run to left field for a 5-1 lead … his team-leading fifth homer of the season and the ninth of his career.

In the fifth, sophomore left fielder Jake Moore (Dry Fork) (1-3) singled to left field to begin the at-bat, stole second base and crossed the plate on a two-out RBI single to right field by Farr for a 6-1 advantage.
