Hampden-Sydney Falls On The Road To Ohio Wesleyan 16-11

DELAWARE, Ohio -- Senior Campion White (Apex, NC), junior Davis Mack (Henrico), freshman Broder Conley (Duluth, GA) and freshman Cole Palmer (Atlanta, GA) each scored twice but Hampden-Sydney College fell to Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon.

Ohio Wesleyan got the scoring started in the first quarter with 12:25 left, before senior Griff Ray (Salem) scored off a pass from freshman Nick Winchell (Wilmington, DE) on the man-advantage to tie the game up. H-SC grabbed the lead with 6:33 remaining, as freshman Kaelan Ferris (McLean) found junior Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC). After two goals from the Battling Bishops, Cole Palmer tied the game up at three after putting home the feed from Winchell. Neither side scored over the final two minutes to make it 3-3 going into the second quarter.

The second quarter was all Ohio Wesleyan as it scored six unanswered goals and the Tigers' offense never got started to go into halftime down 9-3.

The Tigers' offense woke up to start the third quarter, as two minutes and 20 seconds into the quarter Mack scored his first of the afternoon. Just under two minutes later the Tigers scored again as Cole Palmer scored off an assist from sophomore Kavin Wood (Cary, NC). H-SC made it three unanswered to start the quarter just over a minute after the second, as Mack scored his second in just over three minutes to cut the lead to three. The sides traded goals from there, as Ohio Northern scored to break the scoring streak before senior White scored to bring the deficit back to three. Following another goal by the Battling Bishops, White scored his second of the game. Ohio Northern scored one more goal before the end of the quarter, as the Tigers trailed 12-8 going into the final 15 minutes.

Ohio Northern started out the fourth quarter strong, scoring two unanswered over the first four minutes and 36 seconds. H-SC responded with two straight of its own, as Conley scored off an assist from Wood, and senior Conor Kilfeather (Wyndmoor, PA) scored 16 seconds after that to cut the lead back to four. It took seven minutes and 20 seconds to see another goal scored, but it was Ohio Northern that found the back of the net, scoring twice in 32 seconds to take a six goal advantage with 1:23 remaining. Conley responded just eight seconds later, putting home the feed from Kilfeather. Neither offense was able to put anymore goals on the board as H-SC fell 16-11.

White, Mack, Conley, and Cole Palmer each scored two goals. Kilfeather scored a goal and added an assist while Hanes and Ray scored once. Wood and Winchell each tallied two assists.

Junior Will Palmer (Atlanta, GA) made 12 saves on 28 shots on target over 60 minutes.

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, March 22, when they start Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action against Shenandoah University. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Glo Fiber Field at Shentel Stadium in Winchester.
