H-SC Holiday Classic presented by Elder, Friedman & Allen on Friday and Saturday, December 19-20, on the new Tony Shaver Court in Diaz Arena at the renovated Kirby Field House. The Tigers (5-2) will play Wilson (PA) College (3-8) on Friday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m., before playing (11)University of Redlands (CA) (5-1) on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 3:30 p.m. (13)Roanoke College (5-2) is also participating in the event, and plays (11)Redlands on Friday at 5 p.m., and Wilson on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Garnet & Grey, Redlands and Roanoke each advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 last season. Both H-SC games can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the seventh-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 116-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 111-46 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.707) ranks second all-time. He is a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year and the 2024-25 D3hoops.com Region 6 Coach of the Year.

Scouting the No. 16 Tigers
H-SC has been led by a trio of sophomore guards in
Peter Moye (Charlotte, NC), who is averaging 13.1 points (52% FGs) and 3.6 rebounds with a team-best 14 three-point field goals (41%);
Santana Lynch (Dallas, TX), who adds 12.4 points (62% FGs) and a team-best 6.9 rebounds; and
Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC), who averages 11.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists with 10 three-pointers (37%). Another sophomore guard,
Tugg Bizzelle (Baltimore, Md), adds 9.1 points for the Tigers with seven three-pointers (47%). H-SC shoots 47% (181-383) from the field, including 34% (41-120) on three-pointers, and 61% (99-163) at the free throw line. The Tigers average 71.7 points, and yield 64.6 points, for a +7.1 scoring margin.
Scouting Wilson
Wilson is 3-8 and coached by first-year head coach Mike Bowens. The Phoenix have been led by senior guard Jalen Bowie (17.5 points, 7.5 rebounds), senior forward Armani Jones (15.7 points, 8.6 rebounds) and senior guard Jalen Pierce (15.7 points, 6.6 rebounds). H-SC and Wilson are meeting for the first-time ever in basketball.
Scouting No. 11 Redlands
Redlands is 5-1 and coached by sixth-year head coach Eric Bridgeland. The Bulldogs have been led by senior forward Lucas Gordon (16.8 points, 8.3 rebounds), senior guard Omari Ferguson (14.3 points), junior forward Derek Sangster (13.7 points, 5.7 rebounds), junior guard Jhace Boston (13.5 points) and senior guard Jake Hlywiak (12.7 points, 16 3FGs). H-SC and Redlands have played one time previously with the Bulldogs taking an
83-72 win past the Tigers in the third round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Sectionals (Sweet 16) last March 14 at the John A. Paulson Center on the campus of New York University in New York, New York.

Roanoke is 5-2 and coached by 10th-year head coach Clay Nunley. The Maroons have been led by senior guard Marcus Morgan (13.3 points, 4.6 rebounds), junior guard Jackson Bell (12.9 points, 13 3FGs), sophomore guard Caleb Franze (12.3 points, 14 3FGs) and junior forward Gavin O'Malley (11.1 points, 6.7 rebounds).

Leading the Tigers is senior guard
Grayson Schultz (Moseley), who is a second-year team member serving in the leadership role for the first time. He was a team manager during his first two years at the College, before joining the team for 2024-25. Grayson is the son of Glenn and Paige Schultz and is majoring in economics and business at the College.
ODAC Preseason Poll
H-SC was picked fourth in the
2025-26 ODAC Preseason Poll. The Tigers earned 96 points among the 12 conference schools. Randolph-Macon was picked first with 121 points and 11 first-place votes, while Virginia Wesleyan was chosen second with 104 points, followed by Roanoke in third with 103 points and the other first-place vote, H-SC (fourth, 96) and Lynchburg with 81 points to round-out the Top Five. The remainder of the poll includes Shenandoah (64), Guilford (58) and Washington and Lee (58), Averett (34), Bridgewater (33), Randolph (26) and Eastern Mennonite (14).
Program History
H-SC is competing in its 116th-year of basketball during 2025-26. The Tigers have an overall program record of
1,545-1,104 since beginning in 1908. H-SC has posted 64 winning seasons, 18 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships.
NCAA Tournament History
H-SC has made
17 NCAA Tournament appearances since 1989, winning at least one game in 14 of the 17 years, while compiling an overall NCAA Tournament record of 27-18. The Tigers advanced to the Final Four in 1999, 2003 and 2024, and to the National Championship in 1999 and 2024. H-SC was National Runner-Up in 2024, falling to Trine (IN) 69-61, as well as in 1999, falling to UW-Platteville 76-75 in double-overtime. The Tigers fell to Gustavus Adolphus (MN) 79-68 in the 2003 National Semifinals. H-SC advanced to the Elite Eight in 1995, 1998, 1999, 2003 and 2024, while reaching the Sweet 16 in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2024 and 2025. The Tigers have hosted 24 NCAA Tournament games since 1992, compiling an impressive record of 19-5.
Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has two former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches.
Russell Turner '92 is in his 16th year at UC Irvine and
Ryan Odom '96 is in his first season at Virginia and his 10th season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State, VCU). Through Dec. 17, Turner was 328-191 at UCI (7-4 this season) and Odom was 210-118 overall, including 9-1 this season at UVA, 52-21 in two years at VCU, 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC.
Griff Aldrich '96 is in his first season as the associate head coach at UVA after serving as head coach at Longwood the past seven seasons where he was 127-100 overall. Additionally,
Ryan Silverfield '03 was named the 35th head football coach at Arkansas on November 30. Silverfield was 50-25 in six years at Memphis, including 8-4 this season.
