Everett Stadium. The host Tigers (7-2, 5-2) trailed 7-0 after one quarter, but led 28-21 at halftime and 35-28 after three quarters, and 42-28 early in the fourth quarter, before a late rally by the visiting Eagles (3-6, 3-4) ended with a game-winning 26-yard field goal by Augustin Miguel as time expired for the upset road win.
"Credit to Bridgewater, they came out and beat us in all three phases of the football game," said second-year head coach
Vince Luvara. "We will evaluate everything we did this week and grow from this from this result as a football program."
H-SC, ranked 25th in the latest Â
American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) D3 Coaches Poll, and BC nearly played a scoreless first quarter, but the Eagles got on the scoreboard with a two-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jaicere Bateman with just 19-seconds left in the quarter. Miguel added the first of his six PAT kicks for the 7-0 margin after 15 minutes. The Tigers had two possessions in the opening quarter, one ending on a turnover (fumble) and the other resulting in a punt.
BC blocked a punt on the Garnet & Grey's first possession of the second quarter, but could not take advantage when Miguel missed a 48-yard field goal attempt. H-SC gave the ball right back with an interception and the Eagles capitalized with a 62-yard touchdown pass from Bateman to Evan Welsh at 11:03 for a 14-0 lead.
The Tigers answered back quickly with a pair of touchdowns to tie it at 14-14. The first score was a 17-yard touchdown completion from Sido to Cunningham at 8:59, and freshman placekicker
Davis Dudley (Charlotte, NC) added the first of his six PAT kicks. The second score was a 10-yard touchdown completion from Sido to sophomore tight end
Kam Mahoney (Bristow) at 7:36 that followed a strip-sack by senior linebacker and team captain
Robert Clarke (Atlanta, GA) with the fumble recovered by senior linebacker
Eddie Allen (Richmond).
The Eagles responded with a seven-yard touchdown run by Wyatt Jervis at 3:22 for a 21-14 advantage, but H-SC again answered back quickly as Hicks scored on a 52-yard touchdown run with 2:00 left in the half – taking a direct snap on fourth-and-one and finding his way to the end zone to tie it at 21-21.
The Tigers forced a punt and regained possession with just 1:21 on the clock at their own 39. Sido connected with Cunningham for 37 yards on first down, but it looked like the drive would stall after a penalty on third down was followed by a sack and fourth down at the 33 with only two-seconds on the clock. Sido threw the ball to the end zone where multiple players from both teams attempted a play on the ball with senior wide receiver
Jordan Jackson (Fredericksburg) making the 'Hail Mary' catch for the 33-yard touchdown reception … and H-SC led 28-21 at halftime.
H-SC continued its momentum to begin the second half, taking the first possession 75 yards on three plays as Sido found sophomore wide receiver
Manning Lasso (Raleigh, NC) for a 44-yard touchdown pass down the left sideline at 14:22 for a 35-21 lead. The scoring play followed an eight-yard run by Hicks and a 23-yard reception by Cunningham.
BC scored just before the quarter ended when Bateman found the end zone again on a four-yard touchdown run with 44-seconds on the clock, making it a 35-28 contest with 15 minutes to play.
The Tigers answered back early in the fourth quarter as Sido and Cunningham connected once-again, this time on a 49-yard touchdown pass, catch and run at 14:29 for a 42-28 advantage. Cunningham made a nice catch over the middle and simply outran everyone down the middle of the field. The quick four-play, 66-yard drive was jump-started by a 15-yard run by Hicks.
Unfortunately, the visitors scored the final 17 points of the contest over the final 9:51. Bateman connected with Ian Browne for a 13-yard touchdown pass at 9:51, followed by a 12-yard touchdown pass to Welsh at 7:04 that tied it at 42-42. The game-tying score was aided by a strip-sack and fumble that the Eagles recovered at the H-SC 24.
The Tigers were unable to keep possession after another sack on third down forced a punt with 4:37 remaining. BC took possession at its own 25 and went 66 yards on 12 plays with Miguel kicking his game-winning 26-yard field goal as time expired.
Sido passed for his game-high 297 yards (15-30-2) and five touchdowns for H-SC with two interceptions, adding 11 yards rushing on seven attempts. Hicks rushed for his game-high 137 yards on 19 attempts and one touchdown. Cunningham had his game-high 168 yards receiving on nine receptions and two touchdowns. Lasso had 86 yards receiving on four receptions and one touchdown,
Jordan Jackson had 33 yards receiving on one reception and one touchdown, and Mahoney had 10 yards receiving on one reception and one touchdown.
Sophomore linebacker
Frank Brewer (Charlotte, NC) had a game-high and career-high 16 tackles for the Tigers, including 0.5 for loss and one pass breakup. Freshman safety

Brendan Robinson had 51 yards rushing on 15 attempts. Welsh had 102 yards receiving on three receptions and two touchdowns.
