(23)Hampden-Sydney Runs Past Visiting Guilford (NC) 3-0

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Sophomore Zakky Johnston (Meherrin) scored two second-half goals to help lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory against visiting Guilford (NC) College on Saturday night at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.

It took just under a half hour for the Tigers to get the scoring started as junior Mo Wumpini (Chattanooga, TN) got the ball on the left side and crossed the ball into the box to find senior Mason Dudley (Virginia Beach) at the near post for the finish. The Tigers and Dudley had one more good chance, but it was saved to keep it 1-0 going into halftime.

H-SC struck just two minutes and 46 seconds into the second half, on a corner, senior Victor Ovalle-Mares (Atlanta, GA) played a short pass to sophomore Kevin Nova Euceda (Woodbridge), who took a touch and played a cross towards the back post that found the head of Johnston and squeezed inside the post. It took just under 32 minutes, but in the 79th, Johnston struck again, as the ball was played to senior Walker Stebbings (Forest), who played it first-time to sophomore Colin Hallman (Cornelius, NC), who played a first-time cross to the back post to Johnston for the finish.

The Tigers had the advantage offensively, putting nine of their 15 shots on target compared to three of five for the Quakers.

Freshman goalie Stig Larson (Richmond, VA) got his eighth win in net, making three saves to secure a fifth shutout.

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, October 11, when they travel to Shenandoah University to continue ODAC play. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Glo Fiber Field at Shentel Stadium.
