(22)Hampden-Sydney Scores Three Late Goals To Run Past Eastern Mennonite 4-2

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College scored four unanswered goals, including three goals in a four-minute span, to earn a 4-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday night at the EMU Turf Field.

The Royals jumped out quickly to a lead, scoring first in the 15th minute and doubling their tally in the 26th minute to go up by two. The Tigers responded to the two-goal deficit in just over five minutes, as junior Mo Wumpini (Chattanooga, TN) chested a ball down and made a pass to his left to freshman Owen Edwards (Matthews, NC), who got past a defender and put home a right-footed effort. The score stayed the same for the final 15 minutes of the half, with the Tigers trailing 2-1.

It took 33 minutes for the Tigers to find the equalizing goal, after having multiple shots saved prior, senior Victor Ovalle-Mares (Atlanta, GA) collected the rebound off a shot and crossed it into the six-yard box, finding the head of senior Walker Stebbings (Forest) to level the contest. H-SC, not satisfied with a draw, kept pushing, and two minutes and one second later, found the tiebreaking goal, as Stebbings drove towards the goal line and hit a low cross across the box, and senior Mason Dudley (Virginia Beach) put it home. The Tigers kept the offense rolling, as two minutes later they added an insurance goal, on a cross from the left wing from junior Tyler Petz (Cary, NC) that found senior Charlie Letson (Wilmington, NC) in the box for the finish.

The Tigers outshot the Royals 20-6 on the night, with eight shots on target compared to two. H-SC held EMU without a shot in the second half.

Freshman Stig Larson (Richmond) got his 11th win in net.

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, October 25, when they host Bridgewater College in ODAC action on Homecoming weekend and senior night. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
