Hampden-Sydney Opens Season With 105-31 Loss Against Southern Virginia

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. –
Hampden-Sydney College opened its season at home in Leggett Pool with a 105-31 loss against Southern Virginia University on Friday night.
 
The Tigers opened the night with the 200 Meter Medley Relay with the foursome of juniors Mason Brooking (Orange) and Owen Renfrow (Bowling Green, KY), sophomore Quinlan Ragsdale (Charlottesville), and freshman Ryan Barnett (Killeen, TX) finishing second with a time of 2:03.74. In the final relay, the 200 Meter Freestyle, the foursome of Brooking, Renfrow, Barnett, and freshman Nikolias Theriault (Poland, ME) finished in third with a time of 2:05.13
 
Individual action kicked off with the 200 Meter Freestyle, which saw three Tigers compete with Ragsdale being the top finisher in fourth place with a time of 2:21.93. Barnett finished in fifth with a time of 2:59.19, and Theriault rounded out the Tigers in the event in sixth with a time of 3:07.96.
 
Renfrow was the lone participant in the 200 Meter IM for H-SC, taking second place with a time of 2:35.64.
 
Brooking grabbed a second place in the 100 Meter Butterfly, posting a time of 1:13.81.
 
H-SC had two in the 100 Meter Backstroke, with Ragsdale topping the two in second place with a time of 1:04.95. Theriault was the other Tiger in the event, finishing in fourth place with a time of 1:42.56.
 
Brooking was once again the lone Tiger in an event, this time in the 50 Meter Freestyle, where he grabbed a third-place finish with a time of 28.04 seconds.
 
Closing out the individual events in the meet was the 100 Meter Breaststroke, which saw Renfrow come home as the best finisher for H-SC in second place with a time of 1:16.43. Barnett finished fifth in the event where he posted a time of 1:35.08.
 
The Tigers will be back in action when they go on the road for the first time to take on William Peace (NC) University on Friday, October 17. The meet is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Prothro Natatorium on the campus of Sweet Briar College.
