LEXINGTON, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College scored right before halftime, but an early second-half red card helped Washington and Lee University get a 1-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Wednesday night.
It was a cagey affair for most of the first half, and it took until the 44th minute for the deadlock to be broken, when junior
Tyler Petz (Cary, NC) crossed a ball into the box, finding senior
Mason Dudley (Virginia Beach) in the middle of the box to direct it into the side netting.
The Tigers were put on the back foot early in the second half, as with 40:48 remaining, Petz was shown a straight red card, forcing H-SC to play with 10 vs. 11 the rest of the game. The defense held strong for the next 29 minutes, but off a corner, the ball bounced around in the box, and the Generals put it in to level the score. The Tigers had a few more looks in the opponent's half of the field, but did not find the winner to draw the game 1-1.
The Tigers led the game in shots at nine to eight, and held the Generals to zero shots in the first half.
Freshman goalie
Stig Larson (Richmond) earned the draw in net, tying a career-high with four saves.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, October 4, when they play host to Guilford (NC) College in ODAC action. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Family Weekend at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
