HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 7 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, plays on the road at the University of Lynchburg in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Saturday afternoon, January 4, at 2 p.m. in Lynchburg. The Tigers are 9-2 overall, 3-0 in the ODAC, following a 95-74 non-conference home win past Eastern (PA) University in the Charlie Cobb Classic on December 21 in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The Hornets are 7-4 overall, 1-1 in the ODAC, after a 76-56 non-conference loss to Marietta (OH) College on Dec. 30 in the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tennessee. The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM—pregame at 1:30 p.m., and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch on the Lynchburg Hornets Sports Network.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 92-40 at the College, ranking seventh in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.697) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC has been led by All-American fifth-year guard and third-year team captain Adam Brazil, who is averaging 23.3 points (50% FGs, 24 3FGs, 88% FTs), 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Junior forward and team captain Shane Fernald adds 12.3 points (56% FGs), 7.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists, while junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe averages 10.5 points (22 3FGs). Other top contributers include junior transfer guard Hamilton Campbell (7.7 points, 10 3FGs, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists), freshman guard Travis Stickney (6.2 points, 3.8 rebounds), along with senior guards Ayman McGowan (6.0 points, 15 3FGs) and Nick Shryock (5.5 points, 6.0 rebounds). H-SC shoots 47% (326-692) from the field, including 32% (82-255) on three-point field goals, and 72% (176-243) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 82.7 points, and yielding 71.1 points, for a +11.6 scoring margin.

Scouting Lynchburg
Lynchburg is coached by 17th-year head coach Hilliary Scott and has been led by junior guard Piercen Young (12.6 points, 14 3FGs, 5.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists), freshman forward Jamarcus Brown (12.1 points, 5.3 rebounds) and junior forward Jayson Easton (9.9 points, 22 3FGs). Young has not played in the last two games, while Easton has missed the last three games. The Hornets shoot 45% (319-708) from the field, including 31% (81-258) on three-pointers, and 58% (118-202) at the line. Lynchburg is scoring 76.1 points, and yielding 73.4 points, for a +2.7 scoring margin.

(ODAC) Series History
H-SC and Lynchburg are playing for the 94th time as ODAC opponents since 1976-77. Shane Fernald
has began this season as he finished last season ... playing at a high level ... averaging 12.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists, while shooting 56% (50-90) from the field. He has seven double-figure scoring games, including one 20-point game—a career-high 21 points vs. Roanoke (12/4).

Impact Transfers
Colin Radcliffe
and Hamilton Campbell have been impact transfers to the program. Colin transferred from Division II Mount Olive (NC) and is averaging 10.5 points and 1.7 rebounds, while shooting 47% (38-81) from the field, including 44% (22-50) on three-pointers, and 81% (17-21) at the line. He scored a career-high 27 points at Swarthmore (11/9). Hamilton transferred from DII Lenoir-Rhyne (NC) and is averaging 7.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists, while shooting 36% (28-78) from the field, including 28% (10-36) on three-pointers, and 79% (19-24) at the line. He scored a career-high 22 points vs. Eastern (12/21).

is 14th in program history with 1,314 career points in 104 career games. He adds 327 career assists (10th all-time), 123 career steals and 214 career three-pointers. Russell Turner '92—the current head coach at NCAA Division I UC Irvine—is the all-time scoring leader (2,272).

H-SC moved up two more spots to No. 7 nationally in the week four D3hoops.com Top 25 (12/16). The Tigers, ranked 23rd in the preseason, 13th in week one, 12th in week two and 9th in week three, earned 433 points in this week's rankings (12/9). Emory (GA) University (8-0) remained first with 612 points, including 17 first-place votes. The next ranking will be available on Jan. 6.

NCAA Division III Statistics
H-SC ranks 10th nationally in assist/turnover ratio (1.63), 12th in fewest turnovers per game (9.8), 29th in winning percentage (81.8), 45th in both scoring margin (11.6) and free throws made per game (16.0), and 47th in turnover margin (3.5). Adam Brazil ranks 18th nationally in scoring (23.3), 19th in points (256), 32nd in free throws made (58), 33rd in field goals (87) and 45th in field goal attempts (174).

ODAC / D3hoops.com Honors (12/23/24)
Adam Brazil
was named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week for games played Dec. 16-22. He averaged 22.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.7 steals in three games to earn the conference's offensive honors for the fourth time in seven weeks this season. Adam scored a game-high 28 points—21 in the second half—adding a game-high and season-high eight assists, along with two steals and one rebound during an 80-63 conference home win past Shenandoah (12/17) ... followed with 11 points, six rebounds, a season-high and game-high four steals and three assists during a 74-61 home loss to John Carroll (12/20) ... before closing the week with a game-high 29 points—20 in the first half—adding five rebounds, a game-high three steals and two assists during a 95-74 home win past Eastern (12/21).

2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Adam Brazil, along with juniors Shane Fernald and Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.

2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided again this season by Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Trevor Loscombe.
