Hampden-Sydney Scores Late To Earn 1-1 Draw At Sewanee (TN)

SEWANEE, TN -- Junior Jaques Lavielle (Cary, NC) scored a penalty in the 84th minute to earn Hampden-Sydney College a 1-1 non-conference draw with the University of the South, Saturday night at Puett Field.

Sewanee scored the first half's only goal, taking the lead in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Despite being unable to find the back of the net, H-SC put pressure on the opposing half in the first half, testing the goalie on all three of its shots.

The Tigers waited until the 84th minute to find an equalizer as Lavielle scored a penalty into the top left corner to put the game a 1-1. Neither side could score during the final six minutes as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

It was a very equal game between the two sides with H-SC holding a slight edge in shots (14) and shots on target (7) compared to Sewanee with 13 shots and five shots on target.

Senior goalie Wills Huddleston (Baldwin, MD) made four saves on the night to help secure the draw.

The Tigers will be back in action when they play a neutral site game in Richmond on Friday, September 13, against Rhodes (TN) College. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at City Stadium.
