Tyler Petz (Cary, NC) scored the lone goal as Hampden-Sydney College suffered its first loss of the season against Covenant (GA) College, 4-1, Friday night at Scotland Yard.
It was the Scots who struck first, scoring on a penalty in the 9th minute and doubling their total just under three minutes later. Covenant scored in the 16th minute to push its lead to three and take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Scots scored quickly again in the second half, as they pushed their lead to four just three and a half minutes in. H-SC got on the board in the 62nd minute as junior
Charlie Letson (Wilmington, NC) fired a cross across the face of the goal that Petz tapped home to cut the lead to 4-1. The Tigers did not score again as the final 28 minutes were scoreless to make the final 4-1 for Covenant.
H-SC had the edge on offense despite the scoreline, taking 21 shots to 11 by the Scots but the Scots were more accurate on the night putting nine shots on target compared to eight for H-SC.

Wills Huddleston (Baldwin, MD) took his first loss of the season, making five saves.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, September 7, when they travel to Tennessee to take on Sewanee. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Puett Field.
