Hampden-Sydney Draws At Randolph-Macon 2-2 To Open ODAC Play

ASHLAND, Va. -- Senior Jack Delaney (Virginia Beach) scored a goal, but Hampden-Sydney College opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play with a 2-2 draw against rival Randolph-Macon College.

It was a scoreless first half with not much offense from either side, with the Tigers and Yellow Jackets taking three shots and putting one on target.

It took less than a minute into the second half for H-SC to take the lead as senior Charlie Letson (Wilmington, NC) delivered a pass across the box and into the path of an open Delaney for the easy tap-in goal. The Yellow Jackets answered, scoring a goal less than 10 minutes later to even the scores. The Tigers grabbed the lead back in the 76th minute, as junior Pierce Boerner (Midlothian) whipped in a cross that found the head of a Randolph-Macon defender and was put in the back of the net for an own goal. There was one more goal left in the game and it fell the way of Randolph-Macon, scoring in the 86th minute to make it a 2-2 final.

H-SC put more pressure on the defense than Randolph-Macon taking 16 shots to the Yellow Jackets' 6, but the Yellow Jackets tested the goalie three times in comparison to twice for H-SC.

Sophomore Daniel Beb (Woodbridge) earned his first career start in net for H-SC, making one save in the draw.

The Tigers will be back in action when they play host to Shenandoah University in ODAC action on Wednesday, October 2. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
