Ruggers Defeat App State And Western Carolina On The Road In Boone

Tigers defeat Mountaineers 7-0, Catamounts 22-12, B-side falls 10-5 to App State B

Boone, NC The Hampden-Sydney Rugby Football Club traveled to Boone, NC on Saturday for their opening matches of the fall 15's season, going 2-0 in A-Side matches while falling in a B-side developmental match. Playing in a round-robin format of intense 30 minute games, H-SC opened with a 7-0 win over the host Appalachian State Mountaineers. Senior Joe Newcomer scored the only try of the game and the Thomas Nichols conversion set the final score as the defense held strong for a shutout. Following the "A" contest, H-SC's developmental team competed well against App State's B-side, falling 10-5, with junior Jacob Foster scoring a try. In the final match of the day for the Tigers, H-SC defeated Western Carolina 22-12. H-SC's A side competed in the first half before giving way to the developmental side in the second half. Against the Catamounts, junior Alex Barth scored two tries and one conversion, junior Jacob Foster scored a try, and freshman Dorian Glass III scored the final try for the Tigers. 

Up next will be a trip to Lexington, VA  for a contest vs national power Virginia MIllitary Institute, with  a 1 pm game time at Gray-Minor Stadium.
