Luke Helfgott (Arlington) scored three goals and added three assists, while freshman
Landon Honig (Glen Allen) scored three goals to go along with one assist to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 19-1 win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action against Randolph College, Wednesday afternoon at Lewis C. Everett Stadium.
"Today's game was a good team win and good to get everyone on the roster playing in our first ODAC win of the season," said head coach

The Tigers opened the scoring after just a minute and 22 seconds of action, as senior
Michael Leone (Vienna) had the ball behind the net and found senior
Ray O'Brien (Scituate, MA) on the right edge of the crease for the easy finish. Leone got a goal himself 29 seconds later, as he picked up the loose ball off a shot and put the ball home as the goalie tried to recover. O'Brien reversed the roles of the first goal for the third goal of the game, as he drew two defenders leaving Leone open in the middle of the field for the feed and finish. Sophomore
Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC) assisted on the fourth goal, making a pass to junior
Campion White (Apex, NC) who dodged a defender's stick right after the catch and put it home. Freshman
Trey Black (Pinehurst, NC) was cutting through the middle of the defense and got the pass from Helfgott, opting for the bounce shot that beat the goalie through his legs. On the fast break, Helfgott picked up the loose ball and found senior
Matt Gemmell (Winston-Salem, NC) in the middle of the field, who thought about the shot before passing to senior
Jack Hall (Norfolk) on the left side of the crease for the finish far post. Black got his second of the game as freshman
Ryan Estay (Cypress, TX) found him up top for the sidearm finish. Freshman
Jake Bell (Cary, NC) added to the Tigers' lead 49 seconds later, beating his man and firing a bounce shot up and over the goalie. Helfgott got his first goal of the game with 2:26 left in the quarter, getting the pass from Estay, and somehow kept his feet out of the crease while getting pushed in by a defender to wrap his stick around the goalie and finish and make it 9-0 after 15 minutes of action.
Just over four minutes into the second quarter, Honig got his first of the game, taking the pass from Helfgott and firing it past the goalie at the near post. Helfgott scored his second of the game, as Honig picked up a loose ball and quickly found Gemmell who made a quick pass to an open Helfgott for the stick fake and finish. Helfgott secured his hat trick 14 seconds later, picking off a pass back to the goalie to open up a one-on-one with the goalie where he finished into the bottom right corner of the net. Junior
Griff Ray (Lexington) scored his first of the night 43 seconds later, as Helfgott found him from behind the net and he fired a bounce shot from the left wing through the legs of the goalie and in to make it 13-0 going into halftime.
Honig got the scoring started for the Tigers in the third quarter, as Black made a catch in the middle of the defense and turned to his right to find Honig for the sidearm shot over the shoulder of the goalie. Senior
Hunter Eppleman (Virginia Beach) scored his first goal of the season, as he got the pass from Bell and got around the defender to make a shot fake in front of the goalie and put it over him to extend the lead. Bell got his second of the game after picking up the loose ball on a shot that hit off the crossbar, he beat his defender to the right and fired a jumping shot into the top of the net. With just 23 seconds left in the quarter, Honig got the ball in the middle of the offensive zone and found freshman
Drew Filipovits (Schnecksville, PA) open on the right side of the crease for the fake high and shoot low finish and made it 17-0 in favor of H-SC after 45 minutes.
Randolph opened the scoring in the fourth quarter to break the shutout, but 59 seconds later the Tigers answered as Estay found Filipovits cutting right down the middle for the catch and finish. Honig got his hat trick with 2:22 remaining in the game, as senior
Jacob Renaud (Schenectady, NY) found him on the left wing and he fired a low sidearm shot up and over the goalie to make it 19-1 and closed the scoring in the game.
Helfgott had three goals with three assists, and Honig also scored three goals and tallied one assist. Leone, Black, and Bell each scored two goals and had one assist, and Filipovits scored two goals. O'Brien had one goal and one assist, while White, Ray, Hall, and Eppleman all scored a goal. Estay had three assists, Gemmell had two assists, and Hanes and Renaud each had an assist.

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, March 23, when they travel to take on rival Randolph-Macon College in ODAC action. The game is scheduled to begin a 1 p.m. at Day Field.
