No. 3 Hampden-Sydney Welcomes Randolph On Saturday At 2 p.m.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 3 this week in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, welcomes Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) member Randolph College on Saturday afternoon, February 10, at 2 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. NCAA Division III's third-ranked Tigers are 20-2 overall, including 12-2 in the ODAC, following an 81-52 ODAC road win at Averett University on Feb. 7 in Danville for their 17th 20-win season in program history. The WildCats are 9-14 overall, 3-11 in the ODAC, after a 66-65 ODAC home win past University of Lynchburg on Feb. 7. The contest will be available to watch on the Tiger Sports Network, pregame beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the fifth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 114-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 72-37 overall at the College, including 43-23 in ODAC games. Caleb was both the 2022-23 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year, and the ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

Scouting No. 3 Hampden-Sydney
H-SC has attained its second consecutive 20-win season with the recent 81-52 road win at AU, marking the first time since 2002-03 (28-4) and 2003-04 (25-5) with back-to-back 20-win campaigns. The Tigers are extremely balanced offensively with three players averaging in double-figure scoring among its five starters that are each scoring at least 6.1 points per game, while seven Tigers are playing 15-plus minutes among 11 playing eight-plus minutes per game. H-SC has been led by senior forward Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) with his 15.0 points (34 3FGs) and 7.5 rebounds — Hubbard will be recognized during a special pregame ceremony for recently surpassing 1,000 career points at the College — senior guard and team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) with his 12.4 points (44 3FGs) and 3.7 assists, along with fifth-year guard Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) with his 11.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals. Joining them in the lineup have been senior guard/forward and team captain Josiah Hardy (Ashburn) (6.2 points, 3.7 rebounds) and senior guard Alex Elliott (Marietta, GA) (6.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 20 3FGs). Fifth-year guard Chase Turner (Virginia Beach) (4.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists), fifth-year forward and team captain Miles Harris (Virginia Beach) (4.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 22 3FGs) and sophomore forward Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) (4.0 points) have provided solid depth. The Tigers are shooting 46% (615-1337) from the field, including 38% (178-469) on three-point field goals (8.1 per game), and 73% (223-305) at the free throw line. H-SC has averaged 74.1 points, and allowed only 57.9 points, for a +16.2 scoring margin.

Scouting Randolph
The WildCats are coached by seventh-year head coach Pete Hamilton. Randolph has been led by graduate guard Danny Bickey with his 16.5 points (63 3FGs), 3.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals, and graduate guard Evan Wiehe with his 8.7 points (45 3FGs). The WildCats shoot 40% (553-1370) from the field, including 35% (190-539) on three-pointers (8.3 per game), and 72% (242-336) at the line; scoring 66.9 points, and yielding 71.7 points, for a -4.8 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC leads the all-time series between the two schools, 12-7. The Tigers have won four-straight and five of six in the series, including 77-63 on Jan. 17 in Lynchburg. Randolph won the first-ever contest between the two schools, 57-49, on Jan. 28, 2009 in Lynchburg, as current WildCat head coach Pete Hamilton scored a game-high 20 points, including 5-8 three-pointers, for Randolph's first-ever ODAC men's basketball win.

Last Meeting (1/17/24)
Adam Brazil scored a game-high 23 points to equal his career-high, and added a game-high four steals, while Davidson Hubbard had 18 points, to lead H-SC to a 77-63 ODAC road win at Randolph in Lynchburg. Ryan Clements finished with nine points and a game-high four assists as the visiting Tigers won their 10th-straight game. The host WildCats, who trailed 44-35 at halftime, were led by Danny Bickey with a game-high 23 points.

H-SC is ranked No. 3 nationally this week in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25. The Tigers dropped two spots from the No. 1 ranking that they had maintained for the past five weeks, and earned 574 points in this week's poll, including three first-place votes—John Carroll (OH) (20-1) is ranked No. 1 with 598 points and 12 first-place votes. H-SC won at JCU 85-67 on December 19 in University Heights, Ohio.

NCAA Division III Statistics
H-SC currently ranks fifth nationally in scoring defense (57.9), seventh in both winning percentage (.909) and scoring margin (16.2), 14th in assist/turnover ratio (1.45), 16th in field goal percentage defense (38.1), 22nd in three-point percentage (38.0), 24th in rebound margin (7.5), 27th in fewest turnovers (10.9) and 31st in turnover margin (3.9). Adam Brazil ranks 19th in NCAA Division III assist/turnover ratio (2.83).

Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List
Davidson Hubbard was named to the 2023-24 Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List on Jan. 15. The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball to include NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA.

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC has made at least one three-point field goal in 482 consecutive games, dating back to a home game vs. Emory & Henry on Dec. 3, 2005 (0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that contest 130-99. H-SC's 142 three-pointers this season includes three games of at least 11, with a season-high 17 three-pointers vs. Rose-Hulman (IN) on Nov. 18 (17-36 3FGA). The season-low is four at Ferrum on Jan. 3 (4-22 3FGA).

Career Watch
Ryan Clements ranks 12th in career scoring with 1,352 career points in 109 career games. Davidson Hubbard ranks 45th with 1,009 career points in 80 career games. He surpassed the career scoring milestone on a massive offensive rebound and two-handed slam dunk follow-up against Randolph-Macon on Feb. 3 in Fleet Gym. Russell Turner '92 is the all-time leader with 2,272 career points. Clements is seventh in career steals with 183 career steals. Ralph Baker '89 is the all-time leader with 258 career steals. Clements is ninth in career assists with 331 career assists. Mike Murray '15 is the all-time leader with 433 career assists. Hubbard is 10th in career blocks with 48 career blocks. Mike Thompson '04 is the all-time leader with 136 career blocks.

2023-24 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Miles Harris, along with seniors Adam Brazil and Josiah Hardy. Harris and Brazil are each serving in the leadership role for their second season, while Hardy is a first-year captain. Miles is the son of Randy Harris and Corey Bacs and is majoring in economics and business. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English. Josiah is the son of Vernal Hardy and Felicia Miller and is majoring in economics and business.

Program History
H-SC is competing in its 114th-year of basketball during 2023-24. The Tigers began this season with an overall record of 1486-1093 since beginning in 1908, and currently are 1506-1095. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons (this season included), 17 seasons with at least 20 wins (this season included), and has won 10 ODAC Tournament Championships and made 15 NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. The Tigers have advanced to the Final Four two times previously, and to the National Championship once.
 
Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 14th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his first season at VCU and his eighth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his sixth year at Longwood. Entering this season, Turner was 265-170 at UCI ... Odom was 141-85 overall, including 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 88-72 at Longwood.

Up Next
H-SC plays on the road at ODAC member Virginia Wesleyan University on Wednesday evening, Feb. 14, at 5 p.m. in Virginia Beach. The Tigers will conclude the regular season at home in the friendly confines against the University of Mary Washington in non-conference action on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. in Fleet Gym—Senior Day for eight Tigers.
