Williamsburg, VA The Hampden-Sydney Rugby Football Club traveled to Williamsburg for a rare spring 15's match and defeated William and Mary 48-42.

Bryson Smith and
Jonathan Person then scored tries in succession, and along with two successful Dore drop kicks, H-SC built an early lead at 19-7. William and Mary struck back to bring the score to 19-14 at halftime. The second half began with tries by
Jordan Payton and
Carson Mann, that, along with one successful kick by Dore, once again extended the Tigers' lead, this time to 31-14. William and Mary then mounted a comeback, scoring the next three tries and making all three kicks to take the lead at 35-31.
Max Pietrykowski answered for the Tigers, with his try returning the lead to H-SC at 36-35. This tme the lead would hold up as the next two tries belonged to the Tigers, one by
Jordan Payton and one by
Jackson Cofer.
Aiden Dore was one for two on the after-try kicks, bringing the Tigers' final score to 48. William and Mary scored one last try to set the final at 48-42. While spring is generally reserved for 7's play in preparation for the spring 7's national championship tournament, this opportunity for a 15's match offered both teams an opportunity to develop play for the fall. The Tigers will next host a high school match on Johnny Ellis Field on Saturday, March 16th, featuring the Gonzage Eagles vs the Charlotte Cardinals. The Tigers' first home match of the spring will be vs Washington and Lee on March 23rd. The day will also feature the Ruggers taking on H-SC alumni, with details and times to be announced.
