HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 9 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, welcomes William Peace (NC) University in non-conference basketball action on Friday night, December 13, at 7 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The Tigers are 6-1 overall following a 79-72 conference road win at (RV)Randolph-Macon College on Dec. 7 in Ashland. The Pacers are 1-5 overall after an 85-74 home win past Johnson & Wales (NC) University on Dec. 4. The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch on the Tiger Sports Network live video stream at hscathletics.com. Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 89-39 at the College, ranking seventh in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.695) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC has been led by All-American fifth-year guard and third-year team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC), who is averaging 26.0 points (53% FGs, 13 3FGs, 90% FTs), 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists. Junior forward and team captain Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) adds 14.3 points (56% FGs), 8.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) averages 10.7 points (60% FGs, 13-21 3FGs). Joining Brazil and Fernald in the lineup have been senior guards Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (6.3 points, 9 3FGs) and Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) (3.6 points, 5.3 rebounds), along with freshman guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) (5.0 points). Radcliffe and junior transfer guard Hamilton Campbell (Wytheville) (7.4 points, 3.7 rebounds) have played off the bench. H-SC shoots 50% (204-411) from the field, including 34% (45-134) on three-point field goals, and 73% (124-171) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 82.4 points, and yielding 73.1 points, for a +9.3 scoring margin.

Scouting William Peace
WPU is coached by 13th-year head coach Claude Shields and has been led by a trio of guards: freshman Elijah Green, who is averaging 9.0 points and 2.8 assists, senior Michael Dulin, who is also averaging 8.8 points and 3.3 rebounds, and sophomore Ryan Lominack, who contributes 8.7 points (12 3FGs). The Pacers shoot 38% (128-335) from the field, including 27% (44-165) on three-pointers, and 67% (62-92) at the line. WPU is scoring 60.3 points, and yielding 74.0 points, for a -13.7 scoring margin. Coach Shields recruited and coached current H-SC associate head coach Bryson Gibson (2012-15), who later served as assistant coach under Shields (2016-18).

Series History
H-SC and WPU are playing for the eighth time in a closely-played series that the Tigers lead 4-3, including a 78-65 road win last Dec. 12, 2023 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Pacers took a 96-71 road win on November 18, 2018 during their most recent visit to Fleet Gym.

2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Adam Brazil, along with juniors Shane Fernald and Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.

2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided again this season by Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Trevor Loscombe.

Next Level
Adam Brazil has taken his game to another level this season ... averaging 26.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 34.7 minutes, while shooting 53% (62-117) from the field, including 33% (13-40) on three-pointers, and 90% (45-50) at the line—making 22 consecutive free throws over the past three games. He scored a career-high 34 points vs. RMC on Nov. 13.

Picking Up Where He Left Off
Shane Fernald
has began this season as he finished last season ... playing at a high level ... averaging 14.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 23.6 minutes, while shooting 56% (41-73) from the field. He scored a career-high 21 points vs. Roanoke on Dec. 4.

Impact Transfers
Colin Radcliffe
(Mount Olive-NC) and Hamilton Campbell (Lenoir-Rhyne-NC) have been impact transfers to the program. Colin is averaging 10.7 points in 20.8 minutes off the bench, while shooting 60% (24-40) from the field, including 62% (13-21) on three-pointers, and 82% (14-17) at the line. He scored a career-high 27 points at Swarthmore on Nov. 9. Hamilton is averaging 7.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 15.4 minutes off the bench, while shooting 77% (17-22) at the line. He scored a career-high 16 points at RMC on Dec. 7.

Career Watch
Adam Brazil
is 20th in program history with 1,240 career points in 100 career games. He adds 311 career assists, 114 career steals and 203 career three-pointers. Russell Turner '92—the current head coach at NCAA Division I UC Irvine—is the all-time scoring leader with 2,272 career points.

moved up three spots to No. 9 nationally in the week three D3hoops.com Top 25. The Tigers, ranked 23rd in the preseason poll, 13th in week one and 12th in week two, earned 413 points in this week's rankings (12/9). Emory (GA) University (8-0) is ranked first with 607 points, including 14 first-place votes. ODAC member Guilford (NC) (64 points) is ranked 25th, while ODAC schools Ferrum (11), Randolph-Macon (5) and Roanoke (5) are each receiving votes in the poll.

NCAA Division III Statistics

ranks 14th nationally in fewest turnovers per game (9.7), 17th in field goal percentage (49.6), 22nd in assist/turnover ratio (1.49), 28th in free throws made per game (17.7), and 33rd in both winning percentage (85.7) and free throw attempts per game (24.4). Adam Brazil ranks fourth nationally in scoring (26.0), 33rd in free throws made (45), 39th in total points (182) and 42nd in free throw percentage (90.0).

Adam Brazil
was named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week, and to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for games played Dec. 2-8. He averaged 28.0 points in two games, including a perfect 21-21 at the free throw line, adding five assists, three rebounds and three steals to earn the conference's offensive honors for the third time in five weeks, while named to the team of the week for the second time. Adam scored a game-high 31 points, making 8-19 field goals (2-6 3FGs), while 13-13 on free throws, adding four assists, two rebounds and two steals during an 85-80 home win past (RV)Roanoke on Dec. 4 ... and followed with a game-high 25 points, making 8-12 field goals (1-2 3FGs), while 8-8 on free throws, adding one rebound, one assist and one steal during a 79-72 road win at (RV)Randolph-Macon on Dec. 7.

was named to the All-Tournament Team of the Hampden-Sydney Tip-Off Tournament sponsored by Elder, Watkins, Friedman & Allen, P.C., averaging 26.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in the two games. See ODAC Honors (11/25/24).

The Team Three-Point Stat

has made at least one three-point field goal in 500 consecutive games, dating back to a home game vs. Emory & Henry on Dec. 3, 2005 (0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest 130-99.

Program History
H-SC
is competing in its 115th-year of basketball during 2024-25. The Tigers began this season with an overall program record of 1,517-1,096 since beginning in 1908, and currently total 1,523 wins. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons, 17 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 15th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at VCU and his ninth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his seventh year at Longwood. Through Dec. 11, Turner was 298-180 at UCI (9-0 this season) ... Odom was 191-113 overall, including 32-16 at VCU (8-2 this season), 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 118-88 at Longwood (9-2 this season). Add fifth-year Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield '03 (41-20) and the Tigers have four alumni serving as DI head coaches.
