not be available on local radio due to H-SC's football game, but it will be available to watch on the

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 83-38 at the College, ranking seventh in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.686) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year

Scouting the No. 23 Tigers
H-SC completed 2023-24 as the NCAA Division III National Championship Runner-Up. The Tigers finished with a final overall record of 31-3, a new school record for wins, and won their record 11th ODAC Tournament Championship, while playing in a record 16th ODAC Tournament Title contest. It was the finest season in 25 years (1998-99, National Runner-Up, 29-3), while the first 30-win season and only the sixth 25-win season in program history—the second consecutive 20-win campaign to mark the first time since 2002-03 (28-4) and 2003-04 (25-5) with back-to-back 20-win seasons.
The Tigers feature nine returning team members, including one starter in All-American, fifth-year guard and third-year team captain
Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC). Brazil, a 5-10 guard, started 33 of 34 games last season, averaging 13.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists with 76 three-pointers. He shot 42% (158-378) from the field, including 40% (76-188) on three-pointers, and 88% (66-75) at the free throw line, adding 31 steals. A D3hoops.com Preseason All-America Second Team selection this year, Brazil earned NABC All-America Third Team, NABC All-District 6 First Team, D3hoops.com All-Region 6 First Team, All-ODAC First Team, ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year and ODAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors, while also named to the Final Four All-Tournament Team.

Mike Patrick (Mechanicsville). McGowan, a 6-4 guard, played in 21 games and averaged 3.9 points with 22 three-pointers. Shryock, another 6-4 guard, played in 22 games and averaged 2.2 points and shot 58% from the field. Fernald, a 6-7 forward, played in all 34 games and averaged 5.1 points and shot 59% from the field—and averaged 10.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists during the six NCAA Tournament games, shooting 66% (27-41) from the field during the run to the national championship game.
Among the 10 newcomers are a pair of Division II transfer student-athletes in juniors
Hamilton Campbell (Wytheville) and team captain
Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC). Campbell began his collegiate career at Lenoir-Rhyne (NC) University and Radcliffe began at the University of Mount Olive (NC). Freshmen joining the program include

2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year
Adam Brazil, along with juniors
Shane Fernald and
Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.
2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough will be aided again this season by
Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach
Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach
Trevor Loscombe.
Scouting Swarthmore
Swarthmore finished with a record of 21-9 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Garnet are coached by 12th-year head coach Landry Kosmalski and return two starters among 13 returners, including junior guards Eddie Paquette (9.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 34 3FGs) and Cal Hansen (7.8 points, 40 3FGs). Senior forward Aiden Godfrey (10) and sophomore guard Caleb Aurelien (19) each started games last season, as well. Coach Landry, who has added six freshmen newcomers this season, has led Swarthmore to four Centennial Conference Championships and seven-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2023 Final Four. The Garnet were National Runner-Up in 2019, advanced to the Elite Eight in 2018 and the Sweet Sixteen in 2020.

H-SC and Swarthmore have met just one time previously, as the Tigers took a
67-46 home win last season on December 14, 2023 in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House.
Adam Brazil led the Tigers with a game-high 23 points, adding three rebounds, three assists and one steal.
ODAC Preseason Poll
H-SC was picked third in the
2024-25 ODAC Preseason Poll. The Tigers earned 123 points, including two first-place votes, among the 13 conference schools. Randolph-Macon was picked first with 137 points and seven first-place votes, while Guilford was chosen second with 129 points and two first-place votes, as well. H-SC was followed closely by Virginia Wesleyan in fourth with 120 points and the other two first-place votes, along with Roanoke (97), Washington and Lee (78), Shenandoah (73), Ferrum (69), Bridgewater (67), Lynchburg (52), Randolph (29), Averett (26) and Eastern Mennonite (14).
Scheduling Toughness
H-SC will play another difficult schedule this season, one that includes four schools ranked among the
D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25, including No. 3 John Carroll (OH), No. 5 Christopher Newport, No. 7 Randolph-Macon and No. 17 Guilford. As mentioned, Swarthmore is receiving votes in the poll, while two opponents participating in the Hampden-Sydney Tip-Off Tournament Sponsored by Elder, Watkins, Friedman & Allen, P.C. are also in the preseason poll—No. 20 Maryville (TN) and Gettysburg (PA), who is receiving votes, as well. JCU, CNU, RMC, GC, Swarthmore, Eastern (PA) and Virginia Wesleyan each participated in the NCAA Tournament a year ago. Maryville won the Collegiate Conference of the South Championship, but did not play in NCAA Tournament.

Adam Brazil begins the season ranked 41st in program history with 1,058 career points in 93 career games. He adds 276 career rebounds, 289 career assists, 106 career steals, one career block and 190 career three-pointers.
The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC has made at least one three-point field goal in
493 consecutive games, dating back to a home game vs. Emory & Henry on Dec. 3, 2005 (0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest 130-99.

H-SC is competing in its 115th-year of basketball during 2024-25. The Tigers begin this season with an overall program record of 1517-1096 since beginning in 1908. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons, 17 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances
NCAA Tournament History
H-SC has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances since 1989, winning at least one game in 13 of the 16 years, while compiling an overall NCAA Tournament record of 25-17. The Tigers advanced to the Final Four in 1999, 2003 and 2024, and to the National Championship in 1999 and 2024. The Garnet & Grey were also National Runner-Up in 1999, falling to UW-Platteville 76-75 in double-overtime in the National Championship contest, and fell to Gustavus Adolphus (MN) 79-68 in the 2003 National Semifinals, before falling to Wooster (OH) 78-74 in the third-place game. H-SC also advanced to the Elite Eight in 1995, while reaching the Sweet 16 in 1992, 1994 and 1998. The Tigers have hosted 22 NCAA Tournament games since 1992, compiling an impressive record of 17-5.

Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at VCU and his ninth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ...
Griff Aldrich '96 is in his seventh year at Longwood. Through Nov. 7, Turner was 290-180 at UCI (1-0 this season) ... Odom was 184-111 overall, including 25-14 at VCU (1-0 this season), 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 110-86 at Longwood (1-0 this season).
