Front Royal, VA The Hampden-Sydney Rugby Football Club fell on the road to Christendom 79-7 in a tune-up leading to this Saturday's Cardinal Collegiate Rugby Conference (CCRC) tournament. Playing only five of the original 15 starters against the 18th-ranked Crusaders provided the opportunity for some less-experienced players for quality match time in preparation for the CCRC tourney. While the ruggers defended the inside of the field well, Christendom's passing game proved successful on the outside. Focus now turns to this weekend's CCRC tournament in Culpepper, VA. The eight-team bracket will be completed over Saturday and Sunday with 60 minute matches in bracket play on Saturday with 80 minute matches for the championship and challenge match on Sunday. Play begins with 6th ranked VMI vs William and Mary and the University of Richmond vs Radford, both at 10:00 AM on Saturday, Up next will be Christendom vs Emory and Henry and Hampden-Sydney vs Washington and Lee at 11:15. Outcomes of these matches will determine the bracket for Sunday, with the top two teams playing again in Culpepper on November 16th in the play-in round for the southern region bracket of th NCR national tournament. Those winners will compete in the south region of the NCR national tournament on November 23rd. Ranked nationally along with VMI and Christendom, Catholic is 4th and Susquehanna is 11th. After this weekend, the CCRC champion will play Susquehanna and the CCRC runner-up will play Catholic.
