Charlie Letson (Wilmington, NC) scored to help Hampden-Sydney College take a 2-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Roanoke College, Saturday evening at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
The Tigers got the scoring started in the 35th minute, off a long throw-in aimed at sophomore
Mo Wumpini (Chattanooga, TN), he used his shoulder after the ball bounced to him to play a pass to Dudley for a thunderous first-time finish into the roof of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
It was the Tigers who struck in the second half, as junior
Walker Stebbings (Forest) played the ball to Letson on the left edge of the box and he was able to get it under control and pass a left-footed finish inside the far post to double the advantage. The Tigers were able to hold strong against the pressure from the Maroons the final 37 minutes and came out with a 2-0 shutout win.
The Tigers were out shot by Roanoke 10 to eight but had the advantage in shots on target challenging the goalie six times to three for the Maroons.
Senior
Wills Huddleston (Baldwin) got the win and shutout for the Tigers making three saves on the night.
The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, October 9, when they travel to Ferrum College for an ODAC clash. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Penn-Roediger Field.
