HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College honored seniors
Wills Huddleston (Baldwin, MD),
Justin Varela (Midlothian),
Aidan Willard (Powhatan), and
Logan Wipperfurth (Concord, NC), but fell 2-0 on senior day in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) clash with Virginia Wesleyan University, Wednesday night at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
The Marlins scored the lone goal in the first half, breaking through a defensive battle in the 40th minute. That goal would help the Marlins take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the 72nd minute, Virginia Wesleyan doubled its tally, making it 2-0 with just 19 minutes left to play. The Tigers could not find the finish, despite testing the goalie twice in the second half they could not cut into the lead and fell 2-0.
Both sides were even in shots with 10 but it was the Marlins who put more pressure on the net, finding the target with five shots compared to three for H-SC.
Huddleston played all 90 minutes, making three saves in the loss.
The Tigers will play on Saturday, November 2, when they play in the ODAC Quarterfinals. They will face off against Roanoke College at a time that is to be determined.
