Ethan Dowdy (Powhatan) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)
Football Special Teams Player of the Week for games played October 26. He was selected for his outstanding efforts during a 42-21 Homecoming victory past visiting ODAC opponent Averett University on Fulton Field at Lewis C. Everett Stadium. This is the second time this season that Ethan has earned the weekly distinction, as he was the ODAC's Offensive Player of the Week for games played September 21.
Ethan had 81 yards on two punt returns and 43 yards on three kick returns, adding 53 yards receiving on four receptions, along with a seven-yard rushing touchdown—totaling 184 all-purpose yards. He had a career-long 65-yard punt return to set-up the first score of the second half, followed by a 16-yard punt return to set-up the second score of the half, adding a career-long 21-yard kick return in the contest, as well. Ethan put the first points of the day on the scoreboard with his scoring run at 6:40 of the first quarter for an early 7-0 advantage.
Through seven games, Ethan leads the Garnet & Grey in receiving with 41 receptions, 572 yards and nine touchdowns, as well as in punt returns with seven returns for 109 yards (15.6) and the long return of 65 yards, adding four kick returns for 59 yards (14.8) and the long return of 21 yards—Ethan also has a passing touchdown this fall. He is the ODAC leader in receiving yards, receiving yards per game (81.7), receiving touchdowns, overall touchdowns (10) and scoring (60), while second in receptions, receptions per game (5.9) and punt return average.
H-SC (4-3, 3-2) will play on the road at ODAC member Bridgewater College on Saturday, November 2, at 2 p.m. in Bridgewater. Please note the later start time against the Eagles (5-2, 3-1), who are currently alone in third place in the
conference standings—the Tigers are tied for fourth in the standings.
