ROANOKE, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College took its second win of the season with a 139-70 win over Southern Virginia University, Friday night at Northen Swim Center.
In the first of two relays on the night, the foursome of seniors
Cody Carnes (Hartfield), and
Matt Brooks (Springfield), sophomore
Owen Renfrow (Bowling Green, KY), and freshman
Quinlan Ragsdale (Charlottesville) took the top spot in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:45.87.
In the final relay, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, H-SC took first place. The team of seniors
Cole Renfrow (Bowling Green, KY) and
Brandon Hyde (Thousand Oaks, CA) and sophomores
Ben Gerber (New Bern, NC) and
Peter Gonzalez (Bakersfield, CA) posted a time of 1:42.04.
In the first solo event of the evening, Gerber placed second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle after posting a time of 12:46.56.
The Tigers took three of the top four spots in the 200 Yard Freestyle, as Gonzalez took the win in the event with a time of 1:58.58. Finishing second in the event was Hyde with a time of 1:59.51, and sophomore
Mason Brooking (Orange) placed fourth with a time of 2:20.92.
Carnes took victory in the 50 yard freestyle, taking the top spot with a time of 22.85 seconds.
Cole Renfrow grabbed fourth place in the event with a time of 25.93, and sophomore
Roger Adams (Chantilly) posted a time of 29.79 to place fifth.
Ragsdale was the top finisher in the 200 Yard IM, placing second with a time of 2:05.86. Placing third in the event was Owen Renforw with a time of 2:27.05.
Carnes took his second win of the meet in the 100 Yard Butterfly after posting a time of 54.71 seconds. Gonzalez grabbed third place in the event with his time of 1:00.73 and Brooking finished in sixth with his time of 1:19.28.
In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Brooks was the top finisher for the Tigers, posting a time of 51:51 seconds for second place. Finishing in fourth was Adams, as he posted a time of 1:08.79 and exactly a second later in fifth was Brooking.
Ragsdale grabbed the top spot in the 100 Yard Backstroke, finishing with a time of 59.28, just 31 seconds better than Hyde in second place. Gerber finished third with a time of 1:05.08, and junior
Jackson Piazza (Birmingham, AL) finished fifth with a time of 1:12.16.
Brooks was the top finisher in the 500 Yard Freestyle, as his time of 5:50.85 was more than 40 seconds ahead of second place. Also competing in the event was Piazza who finished with a time of 7:04.31 to finish third.
In the final solo event of the evening,
Owen Renfrow took first place in the 100 Yard Backstroke, as his time of 1:07.52 was less than a second faster than his brother Cole in second. Piazza grabbed fourth in the event with his time of 1:18.28.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, November 2, when they play host to Virginia Wesleyan University in conference action. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Leggett Pool.
