Farmville, Va The Hampden-Sydney Rugby Football Club traveled to nearby Farmville on Saturday to face a combined Longwood/Old Dominion squad. Both Longwood and ODU are developing programs and neither had enough players for a full side. Rather than not play, the Tigers played their combined squads in an informal match known as a "friendly". While the official score will be recorded as a 28-0 forfeit victory over each team, the score on the field on Saturday was 62-17 in favor of H-SC.
The Tigers "A"-side built an early lead, allowing for early and often substitution resulting in game experience for the entire H-SC roster. For the Tigers, the Man of the Match was
Max Pietrykowski, Sophomore
Thomas Nichols had some sensational line breaks, and Joseph Newcomer was a defensive force.
Max Pietrykowski and
Aiden Dore each had two tries. Theodore Hendrickson, Bryson Thomas,
Jonathan Person,
Graeme Ebert, Joseph Newcomer, and
DeMario Lonzer  all scored one try for H-SC. Bryson Thomas,
Aiden Dore, and
Graeme Ebert each converted two successful kicks.
After a scheduled bye next week, the Tigers will travel to face the Richmond Spiders on Friday, September 29th at Jordan Points Park at 7:00 PM
