RADNOR, Pa. -- Junior
Ford Burke (Richmond) scored three goals but it was not enough as Hampden-Sydney College lost to nationally ranked no. 18 Cabrini (PA) University, 16-7, Tuesday afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field in Radnor Pennsylvania.
The Cavaliers got on the board first before the Tigers answered with a goal from sophomore
Gaines Weis (Richmond) off of a pass from junior
Drew Duffy (Virginia Beach). Cabrini responded by rattling off four straight goals to push its lead to 5-1 after 15 minutes of action.
Cabrini started off the second quarter by making it five straight goals before junior
Ray O'Brien (Scituate, MA) ended the run and got the Tigers on the board in the second. Burke made it two in a row for H-SC, scoring on the man-up advantage off the feed from junior
Michael Leone (Vienna). The Cavaliers answered the run by the Tigers with a four-goal run of their own before Burke scored right before the horn off the assist from senior
Nick Thompson (Midlothian) to cut the Cabrini lead to seven going into halftime.
H-SC kept the momentum going into the third quarter scoring the first two goals of the quarter. The first came just under two minutes into the second half, as Burke netted his hat trick off the pass from junior
Patrick Saunders (Alexandria). Saunders then found the back of the net himself less than a minute later to cut the Cabrini lead to four. The Cavaliers then answered once again, closing the third quarter on a four-goal run to take a 14-6 lead into the final 15 minutes.
The Tigers cut the lead once more as freshman
Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC) scored following the pass from Leone. Cabrini responded by holding the Tigers scoreless the rest of the quarter and scoring two goals as well, as H-SC lost 16-7.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, March 11 when they play host to Catholic (DC) University. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Fulton Field at Lewis C. Everett Stadium.
