HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 20 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 and No. 4 in Region VI of the all-important NCAA Division III Regional Rankings, plays Virginia Wesleyan University in a quarterfinal contest of the 2023 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Basketball Tournament on Friday, February 24, at 6 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center in Salem. H-SC is the No. 2 seed for the tournament and has won 11 of its last 12 games, and 18 of its last 20, and is 20-5 overall, while VWU is the No. 7 seed and has won four of its last five games, and is 17-8 overall. The game will be broadcast and can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, pregame airing at 5:30 p.m., and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch as well on the ODAC Sports Network.

Scouting Hampden-Sydney
The No. 2 seed Tigers are coached by fourth-year head coach Caleb Kimbrough, this year's ODAC Bob Johnson  Coach of the Year. H-SC, enjoying its first 20-win season and highest national ranking (16th, Week 13) since 2012-13, lost its most recent game at Washington and Lee, 96-86, on Feb. 18. The Tigers have three players averaging in double-figure scoring among their five starters that are each scoring at least 8.2 points per game, while 11 individuals are playing at least eight-plus minutes per game. H-SC is led by junior forward and First Team All-ODAC selection Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) with his 14.6 points (54% FG) and 8.8 rebounds, followed by senior guard and Third Team All-ODAC selection Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) (11.7 points, 4.6 rebounds), junior guard, team captain and Second Team All-ODAC selection Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) (10.8 points, 3.4 assists, 52 3FGs), junior guard DJ Wright (Greensboro, GA) (9.5 points, 39 3FGs) and junior guard/forward Josiah Hardy (Ashburn) (8.2 points, 5.4 rebounds). The Tigers are shooting 46% (735-1589) from the field, including 36% (217-604) on three-point field goals, and 73% (278-383) at the free throw line. H-SC averages 78.6 points, and allows 66.8 points, for a +11.8 scoring margin.

Scouting Virginia Wesleyan
The No. 7 seed Marlins are coached by 23rd-year head coach Dave Macedo. VWU won its most recent game vs. No. 10 seed Shenandoah, 80-52, in a first-round contest on Feb. 21. The Marlins are led by sophomore guard and Second Team All-ODAC selection Omari DeVeaux who is averaging 14.1 points and 4.5 rebounds with 35 three-pointers, followed by sophomore forward Amarion Wilson (11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds) and senior guard Jordan Crump (10.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 44 3FGs). VWU shoots 44% (629-1447) from the field, including 32% (173-548) on three-pointers, and 65% (264-408) at the line; scoring 67.8 points, and yielding 62.6 points for a +5.2 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC and VWU are playing for the 89th time  since first meeting on January 8, 1973 at H-SC. The Tigers lead the overall series at 48-40, including a 73-66 road win on Feb. 1 in Virginia Beach. The Marlins, however, have won 15 of the last 17 meetings since 2011-12.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the fourth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 113-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Caleb is 50-33 overall at the College, including 31-21 in ODAC games.

Road Warriors
H-SC played 17 of its 25 regular season games away from home, including 14 true road games. The Tigers were 10-4 in the road contests, while a perfect 3-0 in neutral-site games.

ODAC Tournament History
H-SC is 59-34 all-time in ODAC Tournament games. The Tigers have played in a record 15 ODAC Tournament Championship games, winning 10 ODAC Tournament Titles (tied for most with Roanoke). The 59 tournament wins are the most of any school. H-SC last won a conference tournament championship in 2007, defeating Roanoke 77-62. The Tigers last played in the title contest in 2014, falling to Virginia Wesleyan 77-74. H-SC won eight ODAC Tournament Championships from 1989-2002.

Session tickets are $14.00 for adults, while $7.00 for college and younger—the men's quarterfinals are two sessions (1:00 and 3:00 games/6:00 and 8:00 games), the men's semifinals are one session (6:00 and 8:00 games), and the men's championship is one session (and includes the women's title game at 1:00).
